sandvine corp (SVC) Key Developments

Sandvine, MATRIXX Software, Openwave Mobility and PeerApp Announce the Creation of NFV.net

Sandvine, MATRIXX Software, Openwave Mobility and PeerApp announced the creation of NFV.net, a forum of technology vendors dedicated to fostering adoption of network functions virtualization (NFV) and promoting best-of-breed implementation practices through an NFV reference implementation in this rapidly emerging field. NFV.net is an invitation-only alliance of best-of-breed vendors, with only one or two key players representing each key network function. Members are selected both for their technology and thought leadership, as well as full commitment to delivering a real-life, demonstrable, pre-integrated solution with other partners in NFV.net. NFV.net' s mission is to provide pre-integrated, commercially available NFV solutions to communications service providers (CSPs) of all sizes. Member companies will work hands-on with CSPs to develop, test, and implement virtualization strategies in order to help them navigate the uncertainties that virtualization presents to the telecom industry at this early stage of adoption. The NFV.net website will feature a use case library highlighting reference implementations from participant companies and provides a mechanism for some of the technical minds to share their lessons learned about the challenges and opportunities virtualization presents for both operators and vendors.

Sandvine Adds VoLTE and VoWiFi Support to Access-Agnostic, Universal PCRF

Sandvine released an enhanced Service Delivery Engine (SDE), which adds Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) support to the industry's only universal Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF). Sandvine provides communications service providers (CSPs) with a universal PCRF – a policy controller that supports the 3GPP and PCMM standards as well as other interfaces such as RADIUS CoA and REST – in order to facilitate deployment in any fixed or mobile network. This deployment flexibility allows Sandvine's PCRF to enable innovative subscriber services such as shared data, data rollover, sponsored data and consistent policy control in any network, with any combination of access technologies. As network operators look to extend their services into additional access technologies, such as WiFi and LTE, this universal functionality is critical to delivering a consistently high-quality subscriber experience. As a standalone PCRF, the latest SDE enhancements enable a number of specific VoLTE and VoWiFi use cases, including guaranteed quality of service (QoS). When deployed as part of a complete Sandvine network policy control solution, the additional network intelligence gained enables a number of additional use cases including, measurement of VoLTE and VoWiFi quality of experience (QoE) for both on-deck and over-the-top (OTT) services, as well as Single Number Reach, which permits use of a single phone number across multiple connected devices and access networks. Sandvine's SDE is also the first PCRF with a drag-and-drop service creation GUI, known as ServiceDesigner. ServiceDesigner allows operators to rapidly define, modify, and deploy subscriber services to the network in minutes, resulting in shortened time to market and reduced implementation costs.
