STMicroelectronics N.V. Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Year Ended December 31, 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for the First Quarter of 2015

STMicroelectronics N.V. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net revenues of $1,829 million against $2,015 million a year ago. Operating income was $38 million against loss of $11 million a year ago. Income before income taxes and non-controlling interest was $46 million against loss of $26 million a year ago. Net income attributable to parent company was $43 million or $0.05 per basic and diluted earnings per share against loss attributable to parent company of $36 million or $0.04 per basic and diluted loss per share a year ago. Net cash from operating activities was $311 million against $270 million a year ago. Net payment for capital expenditures was $108 million against $133 million a year ago. Free cash flow was $208 million compared to $140 million in the prior quarter and $91 million in the year-ago quarter. Non-GAAP operating income was $58 million against $18 million a year ago. On an adjusted basis, net of related taxes, the company reported non-U.S. GAAP net income per share of $0.07 excluding impairment and restructuring charges, compared to a net income per share of $0.13 and a net loss of $0.01 per share in the prior and year-ago quarter, respectively. For the year, the company reported net revenues of $7,404 million against $8,082 million a year ago. Operating income was $168 million against loss of $465 million a year ago. Income before income taxes and non-controlling interest was $106 million against loss before income taxes and non-controlling interest of $592 million a year ago. Capital expenditure payments, net of proceeds from sales, were $496 million for 2014, compared to $531 million for 2013. Free cash flow significantly improved by $376 million to positive $197 million in 2014 from negative $179 million in 2013. On an adjusted basis, the company reported a non-U.S. GAAP net income per share estimated at $0.29 excluding impairment and restructuring charges and one-time items, net of estimated income tax effect compared to $0.23 in the full year 2013. The company expects revenues in the first quarter of 2015 to decrease sequentially by about 5% at the mid-point, which is better than normal seasonal evolution.

STMicroelectronics Introduces New STM32F0 Value Line Microcontrollers

STMicroelectronics has boosted its STM32F0 Value Line ARM® Cortex®-M0 microcontroller series, adding USB connectivity and larger Flash options to enhance support for cost-sensitive consumer, smart-energy, communication-gateway, and Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications. Six new devices now join the entry-level 32-bit STM32F0 Value Line to address the 8-bit and 16-bit applications. These extend developers’ flexibility to use the same microcontroller architecture for a wide range of needs, and allow the customer to introduce new products to market quickly and efficiently. The new devices open access to the wider STM32 portfolio, with over 600 part numbers leveraging the full spectrum of ARM Cortex-M cores and extensive development support. The new STM32F030CC and STM32F030RC Value Line devices feature 256KB program Flash in 48-pin or 64-pin LQFP packages. Moreover, USB 2.0 Full Speed interface is now available in four new STM32F070 Value Line devices compliant with Battery Charger Detection (BCD v1.2) and Link Power Management (LPM), enabling optimum energy efficiency and longer battery life. These latest additions augment the strong feature-set of the STM32F0 Value Line, giving designers access to built-in safety functionalities, precise internal oscillators, multiple clock sources, and a calendar Real-Time Clock (RTC) with alarm and periodic wakeup from Stop/Standby. Further important features include a 5-channel DMA controller, internal voltage regulator, 12-bit/1.0µs Analog-Digital Converter (ADC), and versatile communication capabilities such as two I2C interfaces, six USARTs, and two SPIs. The new STM32F0 Value Line microcontrollers are sampling now, and entering volume production throughout first quarter of 2015. The STM32F070F6P6 with 32KB Flash and USB support in TSSOP20 package is priced from $0.57 for 10,000 units. The STM32F0 software and hardware ecosystem now supports these new entrants. For just $10.32, the NUCLEO-F070RB allows a fast evaluation and gives a quick access to the developer community for making prototypes. It can be used with various application expansion boards now accessible on the market. The configuration of the device takes only few seconds with the STM32CubeMX configuration tool. STM32CubeMX can also generate initialization C-code, and automatically download STM32CubeF0 embedded software. This embedded software provides a high portability level to other STM32s, but users can also choose the STM32F0 Standard Peripherals Library or the highly optimized STM32F0Snippets. All STM32F0 peripherals are covered, from simple RTC up to full USB stack with many classes.

STMicroelectronics Launches Latest HDMI Protection Devices

STMicroelectronics has launched its latest single-chip HDMI signal-conditioning and protection ICs, designed for maximum performance up to present fast 4K Ultra-HD data rates. The new HDMI2C1 series feature active pull-ups on all DDC (Display Data Channel) lines to maintain Ultra-HD signal integrity and minimize dependence on HDMI cable quality. Moreover, the integrated ESD protection has increased bandwidth of 10 GHz to pass high-speed 4K signals without distortion. On the other hand, low clamping voltage of 10V and fast response time of 30ns prevent unwanted transients damaging the latest HDMI chips manufactured in ESD-sensitive deep-nanometer process technologies. Using an HDMI2C1 device can save 80% of pc-board space occupied by discrete protection components, and can accelerate time to market for fast-moving consumer products such as Ultra-HD set-top boxes and Blu-ray players. In addition, pin assignments are optimized for use with economical single- or two-layer boards. Additional features of the HDMI2C1 series include a 5V low-dropout (LDO) regulator with short-circuit and over-temperature protection, as well as level shifters for the HDMI DDC, CEC (Consumer Electronic Control) and Hot-Plug Detect (HPD) lines with back-drive protection. In total, four variants are available, including the HDMI2C1-6C1 for use with external ESD protection or common-mode filtering (ST’s ECMF series) on HDMI data lines thereby enhancing design flexibility. The HDMI2C1-14HD, HDMI2C1-14HDS, HDMI2C2-14HD and HDMI2C1-6C1 are available in QFN-36L or µQFN-18L packages. Prices start from $0.63 for the HDMI2C1-14HDS, or $0.50 for the HDMI2C1-6C1 for orders of 100 units.
