Standard Chartered PLC (LSE:STAN) is seeking to sell its retail banking business in Oman and has shelved a plan to close its Islamic retail business in the Gulf nation of Bahrain, according to three people with knowledge of the matter. The sale in Oman, where it has three branches and employs about 100 people, may be offered to local banks, according to one of the people.

Standard Chartered Appoints Iain Lobban to its Board on Financial Crime

Standard Chartered announced that it has attempted to demonstrate how seriously it is taking its crackdown on wrongdoing by appointing the former head of GCHQ, Sir Iain Lobban, to a committee set up to advise its board on financial crime. Lobban, who left the government communications headquarters last October, joins a committee that already includes a former president of Interpol, Khoo Boon Hui; a former assistant to the United States President for homeland security and counterterrorism, Frances Townsend; and the former head of the interbank payments system Swift, Lazaro Campos.

Standard Chartered PLC (LSE:STAN) has no intention to sell its 45% stake in PT Bank Permata Tbk (JKSE:BNLI). Lim Cheng Teck, Chief Executive Officer for ASEAN of Standard Chartered said, "We do not have the intention of disposal (of the stake) at this stage".
