Further, the company provides restaurant review portal and advertisements; wireless broadband, data communication, mobile phone, narrowband portal content, equipment rental, interactive television, broadcasting, IT disaster recovery services, and handset insurance and related services; invests in telecommunications network infrastructure; distributes prepaid mobile products; and operates and maintains fiber optic network. Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros Entertainment Announce Joint-Venture to Offer Video Service in Asia

Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros Entertainment announced that they have established HOOQ, a joint venture start-up, to offer a video service in Asia. The regional over-the-top (OTT) service will deliver Hollywood blockbusters and television series, as well as popular local movies and programmes by enabling customers to stream and download the shows on their device or platform of choice. HOOQ will be rolled out progressively in the Singtel Group's Asian footprint, including Indonesia, the Philippines, India and Thailand, from the first quarter of 2015. The studios will provide access to their premium content and know-how, while Singtel will provide market access to its customer base and billing capabilities. At launch, HOOQ will have a catalogue of more than 10,000 shows, from blockbusters such as Spider-Man and Harry Potter to TV favourites such as Friends and Gossip Girl. There will also be an extensive selection of Indian, Chinese, Thai, Filipino, Indonesian, Korean and Japanese movies and TV series.

Singapore Telecommunications Launches 6 Channels on Singtel TV Platform

Singapore Telecommunications has launched six channels on the newly rebranded 'Singtel TV' (formerly known as 'SingTel mio TV') platform. Starting 30 January 2015, Singtel TV subscribers will be able to access Diva HD, E! Entertainment Television HD, Hello! Japan, NHK World TV, NHK World Premium, and Toonami HD. These six channels will be provided to all Singtel TV customers free of charge until 5 March. Pricing and packaging details are expected to be released soon.

Singtel and Ericsson Ink MOU for Partnership in 5G Technology

Singtel and Ericsson signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a five-year partnership to test 5G technologies for future standardisation. They will explore 5G uses for consumers and enterprises, with the partnership including workshops to align 5G requirements and exchange ideas, as well as trials on potential technologies. Singtel plans to bring 5G here in 2020, making it one of the first in the world to offer it. With 5G, key improvements customers can look forward to are super-high data throughput speeds of more than 1Gbps, near-zero delay for remotely-operated machines and the ability to connect multiple intelligent devices. Possible areas where the technology can be used include consumer electronics, retail banking, health care and the process industry.
