Sony Releases Smart B-Trainer in Philippines

Sony released its new all-in-one running device, the Smart B-Trainer in Philippines. Designed with the modern runner in mind, the Smart B-Trainer takes the activity to another level as it personalizes one's running regime with versatile training plans through the use of various apps. The device comes in a neckband-style housing that is non-slip to provide one the freedom to run as he/she likes. The headphone-integrated device is packed with six types of sensors - heart rate, acceleration, GPS, compass, gyro and barometer. It also measures and records 11 types of running logs - heart rate, burned calories, distance, time, speed, pace, cadence, steps, stride, running route and elevation. The running logs can then be uploaded to one's smartphone - Android and iOS - through the Smart B-Trainer for Running app, which is available on Google Play and the App Store that will help the runner in better monitoring his/her training progress. It also has a music tempo analysis feature, carried out of by Sony's 12 Tone Analysis technology, which extracts data through signal and statistical processing to analyze music waveforms. With such a feature, the device can, for example, make adjustments when heart rate is higher than target speed: a song with a slower tempo automatically plays to decrease pace (the opposite is also possible - an uptempo song will be selected if cardio is lagging). It can also be can also be programmed to match the runner's mood at the time of running. The Smart B-Trainer has a built-in memory of 16GB and can store approximately up to 3,900 songs. The device is waterproof and lightweight (40 grams). The Smart B-Trainer is available at Sony Centers nationwide and is priced at PHP 12,999.

Sky Faces European Commission Competition Objections over Geoblocking

The European Commission has accused Sky and major US studios of anti-competitive behaviour for blocking access to Sky services in the rest of Europe. The EC sent a statement of objections to Sky and the studios Disney, NBCUniversal, Paramount Pictures, Sony, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros, outlining its concerns about clauses in their content licensing deals that prohibit EU consumers located elsewhere to access, via satellite or online, Sky's pay-TV services available in the UK and Ireland. The case represents a clear test of the EC's plans to end so-called geoblocking, where content is limited to specific countries, and reform EU copyright law to allow for cross-border, multi-country distribution of audio and video content. Sky and the studios will have the chance to respond to the EC's allegations before the Commission decides to bring formal charges of competition violations.
