Malaysia Smelting Corporation Berhad announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of MYR 452,975,000, loss before tax of MYR 19,231,000, loss for the period of MYR 14,909,000, loss attributable to ordinary equity holders of the parent of MYR 14,907,000 or MYR 14.9 basic per share, compared to the revenue of MYR 431,709,000, profit before tax of MYR 6,053,000, loss for the period of MYR 28,834,000, loss attributable to ordinary equity holders of the parent of MYR 28,791,000 or MYR 28.8 basic per share, for the same quarter a year ago. The Group recorded loss before tax mainly due to lower average tin price and an increase in unfavourable valuation adjustment on tin inventory by MYR 8.80 million arising from lower closing tin price at end of second quarter of 2015. Group revenue was increased mainly due to higher sales quantity of refined tin. For the year to date, the company reported revenue of MYR 834,615,000, loss before tax of MYR 21,127,000, loss for the period of MYR 17,799,000, loss attributable to ordinary equity holders of the parent of MYR 17,795,000 or MYR 17.8 basic per share, compared to the revenue of MYR 860,806,000, profit before tax of MYR 30,092,000, loss for the period of MYR 14,198,000, loss attributable to ordinary equity holders of the parent of MYR 14,075,000 or MYR 14.1 basic per share, for the same period a year ago. Net cash used in operating activities was MYR 26,969,000 against MYR 74,345,000 a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was MYR 2,997,000 against MYR 2,870,000 a year ago. Group revenue was decreased mainly due to lower average tin price in first half of 2015. The Group recorded a loss before tax mainly due to lower average tin price, an unfavourable valuation adjustment on tin inventory of MYR 34.20 million arising from lower closing tin price at end of first half of 2015, fair value loss in derivative financial instruments and a negative impact of foreign currency translation.

Malaysia Smelting Corporation Bhd announced consolidated unaudited earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company registered a pre-tax loss of MYR 1.93 million from a pre-tax profit of MYR 24.04 million in the same period last year. Revenue decreased to MYR 381.64 million from MYR 429.10 million due to the decline in world commodity prices. Loss attributable to ordinary equity holders of the parent was MYR 2.89 million or a loss of 2.9 sen per basic share compared to a profit attributable to ordinary equity holders of the parent of MYR 14.72 million or 14.7 sen per basic share for the same quarter ended March 31, 2014. Loss before tax from continuing operations was MYR 1,926,000 compared with profit before tax from continuing operations of MYR 24,039,000 for the same period a year ago. Loss from continuing operations was MYR 2,890,000 or 2.9 sen per basic and diluted share compared with profit from continuing operations of MYR 18,138,000 or 18.1 sen per basic and diluted share for the same period a year ago. Net cash used in operating activities of MYR 11,294,000 compared with MYR 21,968,000 for the same period a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipments was MYR 1,651,000 compared with MYR 993,000 for the same period a year ago. Payment for deferred mine exploration and evaluation expenditure and deferred mine development expenditure was MYR 585,000 compared with MYR 660,000 for the same period a year ago.
