Smart Technologies Inc. Announces Addition of Four New Features to Lesson Activity Builder Section of Smart Notebook Collaborative Learning Software

SMART Technologies Inc. announced the addition of four new features to the Lesson Activity Builder (LAB) section of SMART Notebook collaborative learning software. Available for download August 6, 2015 version 15.1 of Notebook offers fun, interactive features that enable students to learn and problem-solve the way they naturally and intuitively do outside of the classroom: Shout it out – a brainstorming activity that lets students contribute words and images from any device with an internet connection to a front-of-the room lesson. For example: a teacher asks students to read a short paragraph of text and describe what they think will happen next and why they think that. An attribution option lets teachers see who contributed what. Matching – gives teachers the ability to create an activity with their own customized content that enables students using a large interactive display to match one object with another. For example: matching a word to the correct definition. The teacher can use gamification elements, such as a spinning wheel that picks a student, to make the activity fun and engaging. Fill in the blank – provides a tool for a teacher to conduct learning exercises tied to student reading comprehension, math problem-solving, answering word problems in math activities, and foreign languages, For example: fill in the blank with the missing word in a sentence. Rank order – provides teachers the ability to practice and reinforce concepts around order of items in their activities. For example: students could be asked to rank items in order of importance, in alphabetical order, or in math, asking students to rank a set of ratios from large to smallest. The other pillar in SMART's education software suite, SMART amp, continues to gain acceptance among teachers. SMART amp is a cloud-based software that lets students co-create content on a digital canvas to enable anywhere, anytime contribution and collaboration on student devices. It provides teachers with real-time insight into student learning and contribution and gives them a consistent platform for integrating technology in the classroom with any student device or interactive display. SMART amp helps students learn by interacting in more natural, authentic ways inside and outside the classroom.

SMART Technologies Inc. Unveils SMART kapp iQ

SMART Technologies Inc. unveiled SMART kapp iQ™. Available in either a 55" or 65" diagonal, SMART kapp iQ is an Ultra HD display that enables students to learn naturally - working in groups as they pose questions, share ideas and solve problems in real-time - either on the display itself or on any web-enabled device. SMART kapp iQ requires nothing more than a power supply to work in whiteboarding mode. Educators and students simply walk up to the display and immediately share notes and drawings from the display onto connected devices, whether they are in the same room or remote, in an incredible real-time, multi-way, multi-device collaborative experience. Students can contribute to on-screen content directly from their Android, iOS or web-based devices and have those notes appear on other students' connected devices and on the large display as well. Throughout the collaborative learning process users can capture, save and share content for later review and re-use within SMART Notebook, SMART amp™ or other learning management systems. At the heart of this game-changing classroom technology is an interactive flat panel designed specifically for education to promote skill development and active learning in ways that are natural to how students interact with the world. Featuring SMART's proprietary Silktouch™, unique Pen ID™, Object awareness™ and exclusive SMART ink™, SMART kapp iQ provides a premium touch experience, superior collaborative features and Ultra HD resolution - all enabling higher levels of student interaction without the technology getting in the way. Like all SMART interactive displays for education, SMART Notebook software is included and allows educators to easily create engaging interactive learning experiences. Educators can add SMART amp software, SMART's innovative co-creation software that brings together students, teachers, interactive displays and mobile devices to unlock the full potential of collaboration in the classroom. More Key Features of SMART kapp iQ: Students with special needs, those contributing asynchronously or remote, have more ways to participate, using their own mobile devices; Seamlessly switch the interactive flat panel to PC input to use SMART Notebook software, or other applications and content; Integrates with SMART amp™ software.
