SKF Concludes Strategic Service Agreement with Floatel International AB

SKF has concluded a global service agreement with Floatel International AB to supply services within condition-based maintenance to the company's modern floating accommodation and service platforms for maintenance personnel within the offshore industry. Floatel International would like to increase the service interval for its thrusters, which are used to keep the platforms in position, so-called dynamic positioning. By extending the maintenance interval from five to seven years, the company will have greater flexibility when planning dockyard visits, as well as increased flexibility in serving the market. The primary advantage of using a condition-based system is an ability to meet the customer's accessibility needs and coordinate maintenance of on-board equipment with a dockyard visit. Using a condition-based system can also help to reduce the costs associated with dismantling the thrusters over the lifetime of the platform.

SKF Launches Upgraded Version of its Third Generation Hub Bearing Unit

SKF has launched the latest version of its third generation hub bearing unit (HBU3), which features reduced preload range. This reduces friction by up to 10%, helping to minimize CO2 emissions and making the new unit ideal for use in cars and vans. SKF has achieved the reduction in preload range by revising the design of internal components and enhancing still further the manufacturing and assembly process. By reducing the preload range, SKF has cut friction by up to 10%, which potentially reduces CO2 emissions and delivers greater fuel efficiency. The new robust design and manufacturing technique has also further improved the reliability and quality of the existing hub bearing unit.

SKF Extends Relationship with Volkswagen

SKF announced that it will be supplying Volkswagen with wheel hub and MacPherson suspension bearing units for the Golf VII production in Puebla, Mexico. Financial details of this deal were not available. Deliveries under this deal have started during the first quarter of 2015. This new business deal extends the company's global collaboration with Volkswagen on the MQB Platform, to include North America.
