Siemens to Deliver Wind Turbines for Three Onshore Wind Projects in Ireland and Scotland

Siemens has won separate orders for construction, installation and commissioning of turbines at three onshore wind projects in Ireland and Scotland. Under the terms of the agreements, Siemens is responsible for delivering 52 units of its D3 direct drive wind turbines in total for the projects. Two of the schemes in Ireland include the Raheenleagh project in County Wicklow, at 70km south of Dublin, and phase one of Galway Wind Park, which is near the city of Galway. The third project, Aikengall 2, is located south-east of Edinburgh in Scotland. Once operational, the renewable projects will have the capacity to power almost 100,000 households. Siemens has also signed long-term service contracts for the projects, where it will be responsible for five years of service at Galway phase one, ten years for Raheenleagh, and 20 for Aikengall 2. Raheenleagh wind farm will have 11 installations of Siemens SWT-3.2-108 wind turbines. Coillte and ESB are the developers for the 35MW project, which is expected to operational from late 2016. Siemens has scheduled the turbine installation to start next May. For the Community Windpower's Aikengall 2 wind farm project, the company is expected to deliver and install 19 of its SWT-3.2-113 turbines in early 2016. The firm will install 22 of its SWT-3.0-101 direct drive wind turbines at SSE's 64MW Galway Wind Park phase one, which has been scheduled for commissioning in early 2017.

Siemens AG Expands Power Monitoring System with New Measuring Devices

Siemens AG expanded power monitoring system with new measuring devices. The new 7KM PAC5100 and 7KM PAC5200 measuring devices from Siemens reliably monitor and log the power quality in industrial plants and buildings. The compact 7KM PAC 5100/5200 measuring devices are used at the power supply or on an individual plant. There, they can record data on the mains frequency, on active, reactive and apparent power, on the reactive and active power factor, on phase angles, the harmonics of alternating voltage and alternating current up to the 40th order, and on the distortion of alternating voltages and alternating current. The 7KM PAC5200 measuring device comes with mean value, event and fault writing functionality, a logger for quality standard EN50160, and 2 Gigabyte (GB) of data storage for the documentation of long-term data. Users can read out all the recordings directly on the device as well asuse the standard data formats PQDif and Comtrade for analysis purposes. Power quality events are presented in ITIC(CBEMA) curves amongst others.

Siemens Partners with Con Edison to Install Storm Hardening System in Lower Manhattan

Siemens is partnering with Con Edison to install technology that will help keep Con Edison customers in sections of Lower Manhattan in service during severe flooding. Con Edison chose Siemens to collaborate on a new automation system to synchronously control underground switches and circuit breakers that will separate two of Con Edison’s power distribution networks into four sub-networks. That will allow the utility to continue delivering power to parts of Lower Manhattan, including Wall Street, in the event of flooding to coastal areas. Con Edison is the first utility in the U.S. to implement this storm-hardening technology. Siemens developed the Distribution Feeder Automation (SDFA) technology specifically for Con Edison’s system out of its Wendell, North Carolina research and development hub. Siemens’ technology will allow the system to issue open and close commands within four milliseconds from Siemens field devices that control the circuit breakers and underground sectionalizing switches that in turn switch the power to the sub-networks. The system will operate across more than 44 primary circuits. This custom automation system is interoperable with Con Edison’s control systems and installed primary switchgear.
