siemens ag-reg (SIE) Key Developments

Siemens, Cohda Wireless Collaborate on V2I Technology

Siemens and Cohda Wireless will collaborate in the area of Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) technology. Under the agreement, Siemens will deploy overhead sign gantries and traffic lights among other technology in its V2I units. The units will be 802.11p WLAN-based radio modules transmitting data such as speed limits, safety warnings, and traffic jam information. Cohda will develop and produce the units for Siemens, while the latter will base its Sitraffic ESCoS roadside units (RSUs) upon Cohda's MK5 vehicle to everything (V2X) software, using RoadLINK(TM) chipset by NXP Semiconductors. The Netherlands-based NXP started serial production of RoadLINK for vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and V2I communication in 2014. Siemens will deploy Cohda's technology for pilot projects and tests in Netherlands, Germany, and Austria.

Siemens Launches Automated and Quantitative TSI Thyroid Assay for Graves' Disease

Siemens launched automated and quantitative TSI thyroid assay for Graves' disease. Unlike TRAb (TSH receptor antibody) assays which detect both stimulating and blocking antibodies, the Siemens TSI assay specifically detects only thyroid stimulating antibodies, which are the hallmark of Graves' disease. This makes the assay highly specific to aid in the disease's diagnosis. With a clinical sensitivity and specificity of 98.3% and 99.7% respectively, the new Siemens TSI assay offers laboratories a fast, easy, and specific diagnostic tool for the assessment of Graves' disease.

Siemens Expands Georgia Tech Partnership to Drive Advanced Manufacturing Research, Software and Innovation

Siemens announced an expanded partnership with Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), building upon a nearly two-decade relationship pursuing manufacturing innovation through software, conducting frontier-pushing research that supports digital product development, and preparing students to enter the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce of the future. This full spectrum partnership will continue to push the boundaries of advanced manufacturing design, automation and innovation. One example where this vision is currently being realized is the Georgia Tech Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory. Students there are using Siemens’ product lifecycle management (PLM) software to create a virtual prototype of a modern gas turbine. This virtual prototype will help engineers to cost-effectively design the next generation of high efficiency gas turbines while minimizing carbon emissions. Part of this expanded relationship includes naming the school a Siemens Center of Knowledge Interchange (CKI) partner. As a CKI, Georgia Tech joins a global group of eight elite research universities, including the University of California, Berkeley, in the U.S. CKIs represent primary research partners with Siemens conducting onsite research and development at the university.
