siemens ag-reg (SIE) Key Developments

Siemens Wins $156 Million Contract by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority

Siemens has been awarded a $156 million (EUR 130 million) contract by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to install Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) on the Queen Boulevard Line, one of the busiest subway lines on the New York City Transit system. The radio-based CBTC technology provides real-time data on vehicle position and speed conditions, allowing system operators to safely increase the number of vehicles on a rail line. This results in greater frequency of train arrivals and allows MTA to accommodate more passengers on its system. The CBTC technology reduces the amount of wayside equipment and, as a result, reduces maintenance costs and service disruptions. Additionally, the technology precisely locates each train on the tracks and controls speed, improving safety for riders and employees. Siemens is supplying the onboard equipment for a total of 305 trains and installing the wayside signaling technology at 7 of 8 field locations. Through automated signals and sensors throughout the line, the CBTC technology provides continuous updates on system status that results for fewer delays and up-to-date travel information shared with riders via public address systems, electronic screens and mobile applications. The system also reduces the amount of wayside equipment and employs back-up systems, resulting in fewer instances of service disruption and greater reliability. With a length of around 43 kilometers, the Queens Boulevard Line is the second longest line in the New York subway network. It has 25 stations, from Jamaica Station in the Borough of Queens in the east to Manhattan, the center of the New York business world. Many commuters use the line to travel to work from their homes in the suburbs and, with a daily volume of over 250,000 passengers, it is one of the most heavily used lines in this metropolis. Siemens CBTC solution Trainguard MT is the most extensively deployed automatic train control system and is used by more than 20 metro operators around the world including Paris and Beijing. This is Siemens’ fifth CBTC project in the U.S.

Siemens Wins Contract to Supply Compression Solution for LNG Project in Louisiana

Siemens has been awarded a contract for supplying the initial ten compressor trains for a major Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project. Siemens' customer is Magnolia LNG. The project serves to liquefy natural gas for export from the U.S. as well as potential domestic use. The LNG project will use approximately 115 acres of available land in Lake Charles through a long-term lease with the Lake Charles Harbor & Terminal District. Siemens' scope of supply comprises a total of eight refrigeration compressors and two feed gas booster compressors for the initial two LNG trains. Four Mixed Refrigerant (MR) Siemens STC-SV compressors will each be driven by a Siemens SGT-750 gas turbine, while four Ammonia Refrigerant (AR) STC-SV compressors will each be driven by a Siemens SST-600 steam turbine. Additionally two motor driven feed gas booster compressors will be delivered. The subsequent two LNG trains necessary to achieve the full eight mtpa for Magnolia would bring the total number of compressor trains to twenty at this site. In parallel, Siemens has further agreed with LNGL to establish a supplier alliance agreement (SAA) for process compression equipment & drivers for future LNGL projects in support of the company strategy to standardize the implementation of the OSMR® LNG technology worldwide. Siemens recently opened an Oil & Gas Headquarters in Houston, where Davis leads the company’s oil and gas and power generation businesses. Fortifying its position in the oil and gas industry, Siemens has also completed acquisitions of oil and gas equipment and service provider Dresser-Rand, as well as Rolls-Royce Energy’s aero-derivative gas turbine and compressor business.

Huadian Heavy Industries and Siemens Win CNY 833 Million Project

Huadian Heavy Industries wins a CNY 833 million bid for a gas-heat-power equipment project in Shijiazhuang; the figure represented 13.4% of incomes in 2014. The company and Siemens will jointly supply equipment to the project.
