SoftBank Corp. operates in the information industry in Japan. It operates through four segments: Mobile Communications, Sprint, Fixed-line Telecommunications, and Internet. The Mobile Communications segment provides mobile communications services; produces and distributes online games for smartphones and other devices; offers mobile broadband services; provides supply chain solutions, handset protection and insurance, buy-back and trade-in services, omnichannel solutions, and financial services; and sells mobile devices, such as iPhones, iPads, and SoftBank smartphones. The Sprint segment offers mobile and fixed-line voice and data transmission services for individual consumers, businesses, government subscribers, and resellers in Puerto Rico and the U.S., as well as sells mobile devices and accessories. The Fixed-line Telecommunications segment telecom services, such as fixed-line telephone and data communications services to corporate customers; and broadband services to individual customers. The Internet segment is engaged in the operation of the Yahoo! JAPAN portal; sale of Internet advertising; operation of e-commerce sites; provision of membership services; sale and marketing of data centers; provision of online automobile-related information; and operation of Internet affiliate system. The company also generates and sells electricity from renewable energy sources; provides payment processing, invoice collections, and computation services for businesses; distributes video, voice, and data content via media; operates IT information site ITmedia; provides solutions and services for online businesses; and operates online games and software downloads. In addition, it is involved in the ownership of professional baseball team; operation of baseball games; management and maintenance of baseball stadium and other sports facilities; and procurement of funds by issuing preferred securities. It was formerly known as SOFTBANK Corp. Japan and changed its name to SoftBank Corp. in July 1990. The company was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Hillhouse In Talks To Raise Stake In Xiaoju Kuaizhi

Hillhouse Capital Management, Ltd. is planning to raise stake in Xiaoju Kuaizhi Inc. People close to the matter said that Hillhouse Capital, headed by Chinese billionaire Zhang Lei is in talks with existing Xiaoju Kuaizhi investors to increate stake in the latter. People added that Hillhouse Capital's current stake in Xiaoju Kuaizhi is under 10% and the size of the proposed share purchases is unknown. Hillhouse is holding talks with Xiaoju Kuaizhi's venture capital investors, the source said, with investors including Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) and SoftBank Corp. (TSE:9984) not expected to sell shares to Hillhouse. According to the news report, Xiaoju Kuaizhi declined to comment while Hillhouse did not respond to a request for comment.

Micromax Reportedly In Talks To Sell One Fourth Stake To Alibaba For About $700 Million; Softbank May Join The Deal

Micromax Informatics Limited is reportedly on the verge of signing an agreement to sell a fourth of itself to Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) for about $700 million. The deal involves the sale of a stake of 20-26% to Alibaba Group Holding. An announcement is expected shortly. The legal documentation is getting finalised and may be wrapped up in a fortnight. One of the persons said the deal may value Micromax at as high as $5 billion. The deal may also see the participation of SoftBank Corp. (TSE:9984), which has a 32% stake in Alibaba. Citigroup is advising Alibaba and SoftBank while Micromax is being advised by Goldman Sachs. Alibaba, SoftBank and Micromax declined to comment on what they termed market speculation.

SoftBank and Hon Hai Precision Industry to Invest in India

SoftBank announced that it will join hands with a Hon Hai Precision Industry to spend USD 20 billion building PV power stations in India in the coming 10 years, and aggregate installed capacities are expected to come to 20 million kilowatts. Registered capital and when the venture will be established are unknown. Softbank will invest 50% of the registered capital and Hon Hai's subsidiary in mainland China will invest the remaining capital. SoftBank and Hon Hai will also discuss manufacturing of solar panels in India.
