The company also provides professional services relating to funerals and cremations, including the use of funeral facilities and motor vehicles, and preparation and embalming services. In addition, it provides funeral-related merchandise, including caskets, casket memorialization products, burial vaults, cremation receptacles, cremation memorialization products, flowers, and other ancillary products and services at funeral service locations. Further, its cemeteries provide cemetery property interment rights, including developed lots, lawn crypts, mausoleum spaces, cremation niches, and cremation memorialization property; sell cemetery-related merchandise and services, including stone and bronze memorials, markers, merchandise installations, flowers, and burial openings and closings; and sell preneed cemetery property interment rights, and funeral and cemetery merchandise and services. As of December 31, 2014, the company operated 1,559 funeral service locations; and 466 cemeteries, including 258 funeral service/cemetery combination locations covering 45 states, 8 Canadian provinces, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Service Corporation International was founded in 1962 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Service Corporation International reported consolidated unaudited earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of $754.4 million against $746.8 million a year ago. Operating income was $127.6 million against $144.7 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations before income taxes was $84.489 million against $69.316 million a year ago. Net income from continuing operations was $53.482 million against $31.959 million a year ago. Net income attributable to common stockholders was $52.595 million or $0.25 per diluted share against $25.922 million or $0.12 per diluted share a year ago.
