Southside Bancshares, Inc. operates as the holding company for Southside Bank that provides financial products and services to individuals, businesses, municipal entities, and nonprofit organizations. Its deposit products include savings, money market, and interest and noninterest bearing checking accounts, as well as certificates of deposit. The company’s loan portfolio comprises consumer loans consisting of 1-4 family residential mortgage, home equity, home improvement, automobile, and other installment loans; commercial loans, such as short-term working capital loans for inventory and accounts receivable, short and medium-term loans for equipment or other business capital expansion, commercial real estate loans, and municipal loans; and construction loans for 1-4 family residential and commercial real estate. It also provides trust services, including investment management, administration, and advisory services for individuals, partnerships, and corporations; safe deposit services; and brokerage services. The company operates through 64 branches and 26 motor bank facilities located in Tyler, Longview, Lindale, Gresham, Jacksonville, Bullard, Chandler, Hawkins, Seven Points, Palestine, Forney, Gun Barrel City, Athens, Whitehouse, Fort Worth, Arlington, Cleburne, Euless, Flower Mound, Granbury, Grapevine, Irving, Watauga, Weatherford, and Austin; and a network of 70 automated teller machines. Southside Bancshares, Inc. was founded in 1960 and is headquartered in Tyler, Texas.

Southside Bancshares Inc. announced unaudited earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported total interest income of $37,750,000, net interest income of $32,905,000, net interest income after provision for loan losses of $32,637,000, income before income tax expense of $13,131,000 and net income of $11,164,000 or $0.44 per basic and diluted share compared to total interest income of $32,086,000, net interest income of $27,856,000, net interest income after provision for loan losses of $25,206,000, income before income tax expense of $11,295,000 and net income of $10,457,000 or $0.53 per basic and diluted share for the same period a year ago. Return on average assets was 0.93% against 1.22% a year ago. Return on average shareholders' equity was 10.30% against 15.09% a year ago. The increase in net interest income was primarily the result of the increase in interest income of $5.7 million, compared to the same period in 2014, which was a result of the increase in total loans. The increase was primarily the result of an increase in interest income of $5.7 million and an increase in noninterest income of $1.9 million combined with a decrease in provision for loan loss of $2.4 million, which were partially offset by a $7.5 million increase in noninterest expense and a $1.1 million increase in income tax expense. For six months, the company reported total interest income of $76,357,000, net interest income of $66,696,000, net interest income after provision for loan losses of $62,580,000, income before income tax expense of $24,413,000 and net income of $20,543,000 or $0.81 per basic and diluted share compared to total interest income of $64,325,000, net interest income of $55,748,000, net interest income after provision for loan losses of $48,965,000, income before income tax expense of $20,678,000 and net income of $18,681,000 or $0.94 per basic and diluted share for the same period a year ago. Return on average assets was 0.86% against 1.09% a year ago. Return on average shareholders' equity was 9.55% against 13.80% a year ago. As on date, book value per share was $17.03 per share against $14.35 per share a year ago. The increase in net interest income was primarily the result of the increase in interest income of $12.0 million, compared to the same period in 2014, which was a result of the increase in total loans. The increase was primarily the result of an increase in interest income of $12.0 million and an increase in noninterest income of $7.1 million combined with a decrease in provision for loan loss of $2.7 million, which were partially offset by a $17.0 million increase in noninterest expense and a $1.9 million increase in income tax expense.
