Safran SA, together with its subsidiaries, is engaged in the aerospace, defense, and security businesses worldwide. The company operates in four segments: Aerospace Propulsion, Aircraft Equipment, Defence, and Security. The Aerospace Propulsion segment designs, develops, produces, and markets propulsion systems for commercial aircraft, military transport, training and combat aircraft, rocket engines, civil and military helicopters, and tactical missiles and drones. It is also involved in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities; and sale of spare parts. The Aircraft Equipment segment designs and builds mechanical, hydromechanical, and electromechanical equipment, including landing gear, wheels, brakes and associated systems, thrust reversers and nacelles, composite material parts, engine control systems and associated equipment, ventilation systems and hydraulic filters, wiring, electrical connection, and power systems. This segment also provides maintenance, repair, and related services, as well as sells spare parts. The Defence segment designs, develops, manufactures, and markets optronic, avionic, and electronic solutions and services, as well as offers software for civil and defense applications. This segment also develops inertial navigation systems for aviation, naval, and land applications; flight commands for helicopters, and tactical optronic systems and drones; and defense equipment and systems. The Security segment provides biometric technologies for fingerprint, iris, and face recognition; identity management solutions; access management; and transaction security, such as smart cards, as well as tomographic systems for the detection of dangerous or illicit substances in baggage. The company is headquartered in Paris, France.

Safran Opens Safran Tech Research and Technology Center in France

Safran S.A. has opened Safran Tech, a new research and technology center in the Paris-Saclay technology cluster in France. Safran Tech will eventually house some 300 scientists and engineers dedicated to research on key disciplines for all of Safran's business sectors. Safran Tech reflects Safran's corporate strategy of intensifying and pooling its R&T efforts to focus on several major disruptive technologies, in particular more electric aircraft, new aircraft propulsion architectures and new information and communications technologies. Safran has already invested nearly E60 million in this venture, and the total will exceed EUR 80 million by 2018. Safran Tech will take the Group's R&T to a new plane by facilitating open innovation.

Safran S.A. Appoints Stephane Cueille as Director of Safran Tech

Safran S.A. has appointed Stephane Cueille as director of Safran Tech, a new research and technology center in the Paris-Saclay technology cluster in France. He reports directly to Eric Bachelet, Safran vice president, R&T. From May 2013 until this latest promotion he was Managing Director of Aircelle Ltd.

Vard Holding Ltd. Selects Sagem's Bluenaute Attitude System

Vard Holding Ltd. has selected Sagem Safran for the new BlueNaute attitude and heading reference system for its ocean-going and offshore utility ships. The first contract signed by Sagem will provide these systems for Vard Holding Ltd.'s new-generation Vard 822 and Vard 829 (1) offshore vessels. The BlueNaute system is based on hemispherical resonator gyros (HRG), an innovative technology patented by Sagem and already used for a number of different applications, from navigation on unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) to attitude control on satellites. Highly reliable and capable of operating in even the harshest environments, the BlueNaute navigation system offers MTBF (mean time between failures) exceeding 100,000 hours and an extended lifespan.
