sprint corp (S) Key Developments

Sprint Introduces Home Delivery Service

Sprint unveiled a new service, called Sprint Direct 2 You, where a Sprint-trained expert will bring a new Sprint mobile device to a customer's location, set it up and transfer all of their content, including contacts, pictures, videos and apps, from their old device to a new one. The service also includes the Sprint expert performing a tutorial and offering tips to help the customer become familiar with using the new mobile device. This new service is expected to place about 5,000 Sprint Direct 2 You cars in major metropolitan areas by the end of the year. The national rollout of Sprint Direct 2 You begins in the Kansas City metropolitan area for upgrade-eligible customers. On April 20, Sprint Direct 2 You will be available in the Chicago and Miami markets, with expansion nationally expected to follow throughout 2015.

Sprint Settles Federal Overcharging Complaint for $15.5 Million

Sprint Corp. has agreed to pay $15.5 million to settle charges it had defrauded federal law enforcement agencies when recovering its costs of carrying out court-ordered wiretaps, pen registers and trap devices. From the U.S. attorney's office said that between 2007 and 2010, Sprint had included in its bill to federal agencies "the costs of making certain upgrades to its system" in addition to its costs for the intercept charges. It said federal law required telecommunications companies like Sprint to upgrade their systems to handle law enforcement requests, but the law forbid them from passing along those costs. The statement said Sprint neither admitted nor denied any wrongdoing or liability.

Sprint to More Than Double its Company-Owned Retail Footprint by Opening 1,435 Sprint-RadioShack Stores

Sprint will more than double its company-owned retail footprint by opening 1,435 Sprint-RadioShack stores. The expansion will immediately give more customers across the country improved access to Sprint’s unique and industry-exclusive leasing programs, unlimited plans and Boost and Virgin Mobile prepaid offerings. With the new RadioShack store network, recently acquired by General Wireless, Sprint is further investing in communities across the country, and beginning the process to exclusively sell mobile devices across Sprint’s postpaid and prepaid portfolio, including the in-store availability of the Samsung Galaxy S 6, along with other RadioShack products and accessories; transform the customer store experience as it works to complete its “store-within-a-store” concept over the next several months; co-brand all of the locations with Sprint-branded storefronts and marketing materials; and create and preserve jobs in communities across the country. The expansion of Sprint’s retail stores also means significant opportunities for the company to invest in local communities by adding nearly 3,500 new jobs.
