Ryanair Holdings plc Announces Board Appointments

Ryanair Holdings plc announced the appointment of Mr. Howard Millar and Capt John Leahy to the Board of Directors effective immediately, while long serving director Capt Michael Horgan will retire after the AGM on 24 September next. Howard Millar served as Ryanair's Deputy CEO and CFO from 2003 until he retired in December 2014. Capt John Leahy had been a pilot at British Airways for 35 years, rising to the position of Chief Pilot on B-747 fleet until his retirement in 2003.

Ryanair to Appeal Against Court Ruling on Flight Delays

Ryanair has lost a test case over flight delays which could affect the compensation claims of millions of passengers. Manchester County Court ruled that the airline cannot cut the time a passenger has to claim from six years to two by adding a clause to its small print. The ruling sets a precedent for delayed EU passengers on all airlines. Lawyers said the ruling stands to affect millions of air passengers because, if Ryanair had won, all airlines might have been able to impose a two-year time limit on flight-delay claims. Six passengers: the case was brought by lawyers for six delayed passengers who tried to claim compensation for delayed flights after five years and eight months. After a long-running legal battle, Judge Platts ruled that Ryanair's requirements fell foul of European Flight Delay law. Ryanair said it would appeal the ruling and estimates the potential liability will probably be less than EUR 5 million. Terms and conditions: in the ruling, Judge Platts suggested Ryanair did not have this latest legal argument in mind when the terms and conditions were drawn up. He said Ryanair's argument requires a somewhat ingenious legal analysis which he doubt was in the mind of the parties when the contract was made.

Ryanair to Launch Sofia-London Route in May 2016
