red hat inc (RHI) Key Developments

Red Hat, Inc. Announces General Availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7

Red Hat, Inc. announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7, the latest version of the stable, proven and predictable Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 platform. As the basis for large, complex IT deployments, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 offers enterprise IT teams new capabilities to bolster system security, proactively identify and resolve business-critical IT issues, and confidently embrace some of the latest open source technologies, such as Linux containers, without sacrificing operational stability. Emphasizing the platform's commitment to stable and secure enterprise systems, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 helps prevent data leakage by allowing read-only mounting of removable media. In addition, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 now includes the Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) Workbench, an easy-to-use tool that functions as a SCAP scanner and delivers tailored SCAP content functionality. SCAP Workbench, building upon existing SCAP functionality in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, allows customers to measure the compliance of their Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems against their own company-specific security guidelines and criteria. To enhance the reliability of IT deployments, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 is compatible with Red Hat Access Insights, a new hosted service from Red Hat designed to help customers proactively identify and resolve issues that could impact business operations. Leveraging the extensive knowledge of Red Hat Certified Engineers and Red Hat's customer support team, Red Hat Access Insights alerts IT administrators to potential problems, like configuration issues or vulnerabilities, and provides a dashboard to help identify, understand and correct these issues before any disruption occurs. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 incorporates many of the latest, stable open source technologies, allowing enterprises to confidently deploy recent innovations across physical, virtual and cloud environments. One example is clufter, a tool for analyzing and transforming cluster configuration formats. Available as a technology preview, clufter enables system administrators to update existing high-availability configurations to run on the latest high-availability tools from Red Hat. LVM Cache is now a fully supported feature, allowing users to maximize the performance benefits of SSD-based storage for their business needs while limiting associated costs. Additionally, a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 base image is now available via the Red Hat Customer Portal, enabling Red Hat customers to transform traditional workloads into container-based applications that are suitable for deployment on Red Hat certified container hosts, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host, and OpenShift Enterprise 3 by Red Hat.

Red Hat Announces New Open Software-Defined Storage Solutions

Red Hat, Inc. has announced Red Hat Ceph Storage 1.3 and Red Hat Gluster Storage 3.1 open software-defined storage solutions. The new features and capabilities for Red Hat Storage give enterprise IT administrators robust data protection, performance and management at petabyte scale. Red Hat Ceph Storage and Red Hat Gluster Storage are open source, scale-out software-defined storage solutions that run on commodity hardware and have durable, programmable architectures. Validated to work with leading partner hardware and software solutions, each Red Hat Storage product is well-suited for different enterprise workloads, bringing compelling benefits to enterprises. Built from the ground up as a next-generation storage system, Red Hat Ceph Storage is suitable for powering infrastructure platforms. It has a highly tunable, extensible and configurable architecture that offers mature interfaces for enterprise block and object storage and renders it well-suited for archival and rich media and cloud infrastructure workloads, such as OpenStack. Red Hat Ceph Storage 1.3 includes several new features and enhancements, such as: Robustness at scale; Enhanced performance; and Operational efficiency improvements. Robustness at scale, from improved rebalancing logic that prioritizes data integrity over other automatic functions, and a new rebalancing "pause" feature that reduces impact on performance during cluster changes. Red Hat Ceph Storage 1.3 also features time-scheduled scrubbing that prevents automatic administrative checks from occurring during peak hours and affecting performance, and sharding of S3 bucket metadata that enables bucket operation load balancing across a cluster. Enhanced performance, resulting from input/output operations per second (IOPS) and latency optimizations for Ceph running on flash storage devices, contributed by Intel and SanDisk; acceleration of virtual machine boot times using read ahead caching; and sustained block performance by limiting file system fragmentation. Operational efficiency improvements, including the lightweight, embedded Civetweb server to ease deployment of the Ceph Object Gateway, and faster execution of administrative actions on block devices, such as resizing, deleting or exporting, even with extremely large images.

Red Hat, Inc. Launches Expansive Global Cloud Ecosystem with Certified Cloud and Service Provider Program

Red Hat, Inc. announced the global launch of the Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider program. Replacing Red Hat's existing Certified Cloud Provider program, the Certified Cloud and Service Provider program expands Red Hat's cloud ecosystem to include and better support distributors, managed service providers and other partners that are heavily involved in all aspects of hybrid cloud build-out, not just multi-tenant public clouds. As the model for cloud providers expands to include private cloud build-outs, Linux container-based infrastructure and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions, additional flexibility is needed to help these providers better meet customer needs for cloud-based Red Hat technologies. The Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider program meets this need by not only broadening partner support, but by also expanding the choice of Red Hat solutions available to these partners, including: Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP HANA; OpenShift by Red Hat; Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform; Red Hat JBoss Middleware; and Red Hat Gluster Storage. As Red Hat continues to focus on delivering open source innovation to enterprise IT, the Certified Cloud and Service Provider portfolio is anticipated to grow to encompass these new, enterprise-ready technologies. Additionally, customers are able to use Red Hat Cloud Access to deploy certain Red Hat product subscriptions on Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider cloud offerings in an integrated and seamless manner. Red Hat's Certified Cloud and Service Provider designation is awarded to Red Hat partners following validation by Red Hat. Each provider must meet testing and certification requirements to demonstrate that they can deliver a safe, scalable, supported and consistent environment for enterprise cloud deployments. The globally-unified program provides customers, independent software vendors (ISVs), and partners with the confidence that Red Hat product experts have validated a given solution so that implementations can begin with a solid foundation.
