Reinsurance Group of America Inc. Declares Regular Quarterly Dividend, Payable on May 28, 2015; Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2015

The board of directors of Reinsurance Group of America Inc. declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.33, payable May 28, 2015 to shareholders of record as of May 7, 2015. The company reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported operating income of $121.8 million, or $1.77 per diluted share, compared with $114.8 million, or $1.61 per diluted share, in the prior-year quarter. Net income totaled $125.1 million, or $1.81 per diluted share, compared with $136.7 million, or $1.92 per diluted share, the year before. Consolidated net premiums totaled $2,023,852,000, down 4% from $2,100,637,000 last year’s first quarter. Current-period premiums reflect a $112 million reduction associated with the previously announced fourth-quarter 2014 U.S. retrocession agreement, along with adverse foreign currency effects of approximately $97 million. Excluding those effects, premiums increased 6% versus the prior-year quarter. Investment income increased 6% to $426.9 million this period, primarily due to a larger average invested asset base. Book value per share was $107.62 against $89.92 a year ago. Book value per share (excl. Accumulated Other Comprehensive Income AOCI) was $79.26 against $71.51 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $184,125,000 against $199,440,000 a year ago.

Citigroup To Reportedly Sell Prime Reinsurance

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C) is preparing to sell Prime Reinsurance Company, Inc. a subsidiary created five years ago to ease the spinoff of life insurer Primerica Inc., according to people familiar with the process. The unit, could draw interest from Reinsurance Group of America Inc. (NYSE:RGA), Resolution Re Reinsurance Intermediaries, LLC and other firms that specialize in buying blocks of complicated insurance contracts, said two of the people. Jennifer Lowney, a Citigroup spokeswoman, and Sally Smith of RGA declined to comment. A spokesman for Resolution Re couldn’t immediately be reached.
