Britain To Sell Stake In RBS

Finance Minister George Osborne said they will cut at least three quarters of the government's stake in The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (LSE:RBS) over the next five years.

RBS To Sell Shipping Loans Portfolio

The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (LSE:RBS) is planning to put its $5 billion shipping loans portfolio up for sale, finance sources familiar with the plans said. "We won’t be around for much more in Greece. RBS is slowly closing up operations here. The shipping business is up for sale. They have decided to sell it, if there is a buyer by December." one source at RBS said.

James Leigh-Pemberton Outlines Plan For Stake Sale In RBS

Britain plans to divest at least three-quarters of its stake in The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (LSE:RBS) over the next five years, raising £25 billion. UK Financial Investments (UKFI) Chairman James Leigh-Pemberton outlined the plan in a letter to Finance Minister George Osborne. He stated that it would also be possible to raise at least £2 billion from the sale of RBS shares in the 2015/16 fiscal year. "I believe that realizing a total of at least £25 billion from the sale of RBS shares - representing over three-quarters of the government's stake in RBS at the current market price - is feasible in the period to May 2020 while delivering value for money for the taxpayer, provided market conditions are supportive," Leigh-Pemberton said. "We expect that the RBS investment case will continue to evolve, which will create further opportunities to make disposals which deliver value for money for taxpayers in the coming years," Leigh-Pemberton added.
