It offers property and transportation insurance, which includes physical damage and liability coverage for buses, trucks and recreational vehicles, inland and ocean marine, agricultural-related products, and other property coverages; specialty casualty insurance, including primarily excess and surplus, general liability, executive liability, umbrella and excess liability, and customized programs for small to mid-sized businesses; and specialty financial insurance products comprising risk management insurance programs for leasing and financing institutions, surety and fidelity products, and trade credit insurance. The company sells its property and casualty insurance products through independent insurance agents; and brokers, as well as employee agents. It also provides traditional fixed and fixed-indexed annuities to the retail, financial institutions, and education markets; and workers' compensation solutions under the Summit brand name in Florida, Louisiana, and Kentucky, as well as engages in the commercial real estate operations. American Financial Group, Inc. was founded in 1872 and is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio.

American Financial Group Inc. announced that its Board of Directors has approved an increase in the company’s regular annual dividend from $1.00 to $1.12 per share of common stock. American Financial Group Inc. Announces Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2015; Revised Earnings Guidance for 2015

American Financial Group Inc. announced earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. The company reported 2015 second quarter net earnings attributable to shareholders of $141 million or $1.57 per diluted share compared to $106 million or $1.15 per diluted share for the 2014 second quarter. Book value per share excluding unrealized gains on fixed maturities, increased by $1.08 to $49.63 per share during the second quarter of 2015. Annualized return on equity was 13.4% and 10.3% for the second quarters of 2015 and 2014, respectively. Core net operating earnings were $115 million or $1.28 per share for the 2015 second quarter, compared to $99 million or $1.07 per share in the 2014 second quarter. Total revenues were $1,541 million against $1,392 million a year ago. Earnings before income taxes were $226 million against $130 million a year ago. Net written premiums were $1,026 million against $998 million a year ago. For the six months, the company reported total revenue of $2,835 million against $2,603 million a year ago. Earnings before income taxes were $256 million against $291 million a year ago. Net earnings attributable to shareholders were $160 million or $1.79 per diluted share against $209 million or $2.28 per diluted share a year ago. Net written premiums were $1,952 million against $1,753 million a year ago. Core net operating earnings were $227 million against $190 million a year ago. Based on results for the first six months of 2015, the company now estimates its core net operating earnings in 2015 to be between $5.25 and $5.55 per share, up from the range of $5.10 to $5.50 previously presented. Based on results during the first six months of the year, the company continues to expect an overall 2015 calendar year combined ratio in the 92% to 94% range and estimate net written premium growth to be between 4% and 8%.
