ppg industries inc (PPQ) Key Developments

Turkish Aerospace Industries Selects PPG Industries Aerospace Coatings for the Initial Production of Its Hurkus New-Generation Basic Trainer

Turkish Aerospace Industries, or TAI, has selected PPG Industries aerospace coatings for the initial production of its HURKUS new-generation basic trainer for the Turkish Armed Forces, with the potential for additional aircraft if production is extended. Fifteen aircraft will be painted with DEFT military polyurethane topcoat and eco-friendly lead- and chromate-free epoxy primer as well as specialty coatings for specific functionality to perform in the HURKUS trainer aircraft's demanding operating environment. These include high-solids DESOTHANE HS/CA 8100 abrasion-resistant topcoat, DESOTO high-temperature epoxy primer and topcoat, DeSoto high-solids integral fuel tank coating, and an antistatic coating.

PPG Industries Expands Direct Draw Roving Portfolio

PPG Industries' fiber glass business has expanded the direct draw roving portfolio with APE-free products. Available in E-Glass and E-CR Glass compositions, HYBON 2052 direct draw roving is designed for high- and low-pressure epoxy pipe applications and pressure vessels. It is compatible with amine- and anhydride-cured epoxy resin systems. The tailored chemistry, which uses an APE-free sizing system, offers excellent fiber-matrix interfacial hydrolysis resistance and strength retention. These benefits contribute to superior long-term composite durability for the company's customers. Supported by PPG's fiber glass technical resources team, these products are currently produced in the US and are globally available in various TEX/YIELD options in filament diameters ranging from 16 microns to 23 microns. The launch and commercial availability of these direct draw fiber glass roving products in both E-Glass and E-CR glass compositions supports the company's customer-focused strategy of delivering innovative products that meet stringent specifications and performance requirements.

PPG Industries Introduces VWM500 Custom Midcoat

PPG Industries' automotive refinish business has introduced VWM500 Custom Midcoat, a solvent-borne, Vibrance Collection product formulated for application with waterborne basecoats. VWM500 allows painters to use Vibrance Collection special-effect pigments and dyes to seamlessly create multiple color layers-including custom candies, micas or pearl midcoat layers-over waterborne basecoats. VWM500 is particularly effective when the custom finish may be performed over an extended period of time; it also can be used to isolate graphics. With VWM500, painters can take advantage of the array of Vibrance Collection offerings and allow their imaginations to really take off with bold colors and dazzling effects. And they can use it with waterborne products including ENVIROBASE High Performance basecoat. In due course, VWM500 will replace VWM5555 in VWB Vibrance Collection formulas. As matches are completed, VWM500-compatible formulas will be released.
