Banco Popular Español, S.A. provides banking products and services primarily in Spain, Portugal, and the United States. The company operates through four segments: Commercial Banking, Asset and Insurance, Real Estate Area, and Institutional and Market Area. The Commercial Banking segment offers lending, fund-raising, and factoring and renting services. The Asset and Insurance segment provides asset management services; manages investment funds, portfolios, and pension funds; and offers life and general insurance, as well as home, health, motor, and retirement insurance. The Real Estate Area segment engages in the real estate activities. The Institutional and Market Area segment is primarily involved in the asset and liability transactions with credit institutions; the trading portfolios of the banking entities; available-for-sale financial assets; asset and liability hedging derivatives; held-to-maturity investment portfolio and investments; asset and liability balances arising from pensions; raising of funds in wholesale markets by issues of Euronotes; and subordinated debt and capital activities. The company also offers investment fund management, wind energy, stockbroking, venture capital, finance, real estate development, debt collection, insurance broking, cinematography, hotel, renting, and reinsurance services, as well as provides asset securitization and real estate investment funds. Banco Popular Español, S.A. has strategic alliance with Mexican Financial Group BX+ to develop a new support market for SMEs and families in Mexico and Latin America. It operates through a network of 2,305 branch offices. The company was founded in 1926 and is headquartered in Madrid, Spain.

Banco Popular Seeks To Sell Real Estate Assets In Spain

Banco Popular Espanol S.A. (CATS:POP) is planning to sell €451 million worth of Spanish property. The bank’s portfolio includes 1,753 homes in Madrid, Barcelona, Toledo and the Costa del Sol valued at $300 million , zoned land in 10 regions across Spain valued at €103.4 million and 13 hotels valued at €47.2 million, according to a document sent to investors by N+1 Group, an investment bank advising the seller. Banco Popular intends to sell the portfolio, known as “Project Elcano” in the first half and the sellers may provide financing to the potential buyer, according to the document. Representatives of Banco Popular, Spain’s sixth-largest bank, and N+1, declined to comment.
