The company operates through six segments: Retail Banking, Corporate & Institutional Banking, Asset Management Group, Residential Mortgage Banking, BlackRock, and Non-Strategic Assets Portfolio. The Retail Banking segment offers deposit, lending, brokerage, investment management, and cash management services to consumer and small business customers through branch network, ATMs, call centers, online banking, and mobile channels. This segment operates 2,714 branches and 7,445 ATMs. The Corporate & Institutional Banking segment provides lending products, such as secured and unsecured loans, letters of credit, and equipment leases; treasury management services, including cash and investment management, receivables management, disbursement and funds transfer, information reporting, and trade services; and foreign exchange, derivatives, securities, loan syndications, mergers and acquisitions advisory, and related services. This segment also offers commercial loan servicing, and real estate advisory and technology solutions. The Asset Management Group segment provides wealth management products and services comprising investment and retirement planning, customized investment management, private banking, tailored credit solutions, and trust management and administration; and institutional asset management services. The Residential Mortgage Banking segment offers first lien residential mortgage loans. The BlackRock segment provides investment management, market risk management, enterprise investment system, and financial markets advisory services. The Non-Strategic Assets Portfolio segment offers consumer residential mortgage, brokered home equity loans, and lines of credit, as well as commercial loans and leases. The company was founded in 1922 and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported total revenue of $3,947 million against $4,073 million a year ago. Net income attributable to common shareholders was $988 million against $1,011 million a year ago. Net income attributable to diluted common shares was $981 million against $1,001 million a year ago. Diluted earnings per common share were $1.84 against $1.87 a year ago. Core net interest income was $1,971 million against $2,075 million a year ago. Total net interest income was $2,097 million against $2,266 million a year ago. Return on average common shareholders’ equity was 9.67% against 10.71% a year ago. Return on average assets was 1.23% against 1.36% a year ago. Book value per common share was $77.61 against $72.07 a year ago. Tangible book value per common share (non-GAAP) was $59.88 against $54.57 a year ago. The company's fourth quarter performance was marked by elevated noninterest income and expenses compared to the third quarter, stable credit quality and disciplined expense management. Net interest income declined slightly by $7 million compared to the third quarter, as lower purchase accounting accretion was partially offset by higher core net interest income. Core net interest income increased by $14 million due to higher commercial loan growth and securities yields. Pretax, pre-provision earnings were $1,408 million compared to $1,559 million for the same period a year ago. For the year, the company reported total revenue of $15,375 million against $16,012 million a year ago. Net income attributable to common shareholders was $3,947 million against $1,011 million a year ago. Net income attributable to diluted common shares was $3,918 million against $3,916 million a year ago. Diluted earnings per common share were $7.30 against $7.36 a year ago. Core net interest income was $7,942 million against $8,304 million a year ago. Total net interest income was $8,525 million against $9,147 million a year ago. Return on average common shareholders’ equity was 9.91% against 10.85% a year ago. Return on average assets was 1.28% against 1.38% a year ago. Pretax, pre-provision earnings (non-GAAP) were $5,887 million compared to $6,331 million for the same period a year ago. For the fourth quarter, net charge-offs increased to $118 million against $189 million a year ago. Looking ahead at the first quarter of 2015 compared to the fourth quarter of 2014, the company expects net interest income to remain stable. The company expects fee income to be down mid-single digits due to seasonality and typical first quarter client activity. The company expects expenses in the first quarter of 2015 to decline and likely approximate the levels in the third quarter of 2014. The company expects full year revenue in 2015 will continue be under pressure compared with 2014 as the company expects the combined revenue growth from businesses to partially offset the decline in purchase accounting accretion. The company expects 2015 effective tax rate to be between 25% and 26%.
