The Marketing and Distribution division supplies electrical and electronic products, such as audio visual, lamps and lighting, security and surveillance, test equipment, tools, computing, mains electrical accessories, PA equipment, wire and cable, and spare parts to installers and repairers of consumer appliances and office equipment, retailers, wholesalers, education sector, government sector, utility companies, IT companies, broadcasters, Internet resellers, and hobbyists. The Industrial Products division manufactures and sells fire-fighting equipment, including handheld nozzles, monitors, valves, electronics, and lighting for fire truck manufacturers, public fire services, and industrial facilities through own field sales force and distributors. In addition, the company specializes in the development of CAD-Software EAGLE used by design engineers, as well as provides information services. The company was founded in 1934 and is headquartered in London, the United Kingdom.

element14 Signs First Deal to Distribute ARM mbed IoT Starter Kit

element14 has secured an agreement with ARM to be the first to stock the recently launched ARM mbed IoT Starter Kit - Ethernet Edition for IBM Internet of Things Foundation, opening up opportunities for tech enthusiasts across the world to experiment and innovate with the Internet of Things (IoT). Available now from element14, priced at GBP 79 the new development kit enables people with limited or no experience of embedded design or web development to create IoT applications and devices in a matter of minutes. The agreement reinforces element14's commitment to providing electronic components and development kits that support design innovation for the Internet of Things. Worldwide interest in IoT is high, with a recent global survey of more than 3,500 adults, commissioned by element14, revealing 43% want to be able to connect more devices and appliances to the Internet. This figure rises to 71% across China and India. The new development kit, which guides users through the processes for developing cloud-ready IoT devices, comes with an ARM mbed-enabled development board, built on the Freescale FRDM-K64F Kinetis microcontroller, which has an ARM Cortex-M4 processing core running at 120MHz. An Ethernet connection links the kit to IBM's Bluemix cloud service, which acts as a guide on how to use the board. The kits also features a sensor expansion board, which contains a 128 x 32 graphics LCD, 256KB RAM, 1MB of flash storage, a speaker, five-way joystick, temperature sensor, accelerometer, potentiometers and a PWM (pulse-width modulation) control line to receive digital signals. The ARM mbed IoT Starter Kit is available from Farnell element14 in Europe, MCM and Newark element14 in North America and element14 in APAC.

Premier Farnell plc announced unaudited group earnings results for the second half and year ended February 1, 2015. For the year, the company's total revenue was £960.1 million compared with £968.0 million a year ago. Adjusted operating profit was £88.0 million compared with £93.0 million a year ago. Total operating profit was £83.1 million compared with £91.5 million a year ago. Adjusted profit before tax was £74.0 million compared with £76.3 million a year ago. Total profit before taxation was £69.1 million compared with £74.8 million a year ago. Profit for the period attributable to owners of the parent was £47.5 million or 12.8 pence per diluted share compared with £51.4 million or 13.9 pence per diluted share a year ago. Net cash generated from operating activities was £48.9 million compared with £47.4 million a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was £6.2 million compared with £5.1 million a year ago. Purchase of intangible assets was £14.5 million compared with £12.7 million a year ago. Adjusted profit attributable to owners of the parent was £51.0 million or 13.7 pence per diluted share compared with £52.4 million or 14.2 pence per diluted share a year ago. For the second half, the company's revenue was £480.8 million compared with £469.8 million a year ago. Adjusted operating profit was £42.5 million compared with £45.5 million a year ago. Total operating profit was £40.0 million compared with £43.8 million a year ago. Total profit before taxation was £32.7 million compared with £36.7 million a year ago. Profit for the period attributable to owners of the parent was £22.4 million or 6.1 pence per diluted share compared with £25.4 million or 6.9 pence per diluted share a year ago. Net cash generated from operating activities was £27.7 million compared with £35.2 million a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was £2.4 million compared with £3.0 million a year ago. Purchase of intangible assets was £8.2 million compared with £6.9 million a year ago. Adjusted profit attributable to owners of the parent was £24.2 million or 6.6 pence per diluted share compared with £26.4 million or 7.2 pence per diluted share a year ago.
