Further, the company is involved in the purchase and regulated retail sale of natural gas, and the provision of gas distribution services to retail customers in the Pennsylvania counties surrounding the City of Philadelphia, as well as in central Maryland, including the City of Baltimore. It serves distribution utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and financial institutions, as well as commercial, industrial, governmental, and residential customers. The company was founded in 1887 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

Exelon Corp. and Pepco Holdings Inc. reacted with disappointment after The Public Service Commission for the District of Columbia refused to approve a merger between the two companies. Last April, the companies agreed to a USD 6.8 billion merger agreement, and submitted their application to merge to the PSC on June 18, 2014. The merger will bring together Exelon's three electric and gas utilities BGE, ComEd and PECO and Pepco Holdings' three electric and gas utilities Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power and Pepco to create the leading mid-Atlantic electric and gas utility.

Operating income was $1,134,000 against $842,000 for the same period of last year. Income before income taxes was $962,000 against $834,000 for the same period of last year. Net income attributable to common shareholders was $638,000 against $522,000 for the same period of last year. Earnings per diluted share was $0.74 against $0.60 for the same period of last year. For the quarter, on Non-GAAP basis, operating revenues were $6,507,000 against $6,194,000 for the same period of last year. Operating income was $954,000 against $780,000 for the same period of last year. Income before income taxes was $805,000 against $618,000 for the same period of last year.
