Patterson Companies, Inc. distributes dental, veterinary, and rehabilitation supplies. Its Dental Supply segment offers consumable dental supplies; impression and restorative materials; hand pieces; hand instruments; sterilization products; anesthetics; infection control products; paper, cotton, and other disposable products; and toothbrushes and dental accessories. This segment also provides printed office products, office filing supplies, and practice management systems; and radiography equipment, dental chairs and hand piece control units, diagnostic equipment, sterilizers, dental lights and compressors, chair-side restoration systems, digital imaging products, and inter-oral cameras. In addition, it develops and markets software for scheduling, billing, charting, and capturing/storing/retrieving digital images; and provides hardware and networking solutions, patient education products and services, software services, dental office layout and design, and equipment financing, as well as equipment installation, repair, and maintenance services. The company's Veterinary Supply segment offers pharmaceuticals, vaccines, parasiticides, diagnostics, pet foods, nutritional products, and consumable supplies, as well as veterinary equipment and software; and develops and markets practice management software, client education software, and Web-based client communication portal. Its Rehabilitation Supply segment offers distributed and self-manufactured rehabilitation medical supplies and assistive products to acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation clinics, dealers, and schools. The company serves North American dental supply; U.S. and U.K. veterinarian supply; and the worldwide rehabilitation and assistive products supply markets. The company was formerly known as Patterson Dental Company and changed its name to Patterson Companies, Inc. in June 2004. Patterson Companies, Inc. was founded in 1877 and is based in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Patterson Companies, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended August 1, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported net sales of $1,142,870,000 compared to $938,956,000 a year ago. Operating income from continuing operations was $62,177,000 compared to $65,996,000 a year ago. Income from continuing operations before taxes was $50,704,000 compared to $58,598,000 a year ago. Net income from continuing operations was $20,311,000 or $0.20 per diluted share compared to $38,325,000 or $0.38 per diluted share a year ago. Net income was $29,703 or $0.30 per diluted share compared to $50,289 or $0.50 per diluted share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $5,424,000 compared to $68,770,000 a year ago. Additions to property and equipment, net of disposals were $17,064,000 compared to $16,173,000 a year ago. Adjusted net income from continuing operations, which reflects the adjustments to exclude certain non-recurring costs and amortization of deal costs, was $46.9 million for the first quarter of 2016, a 17% increase over $40.2 million in the same quarter last year. Adjusted diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was $0.47 in the 2016 first quarter, an 18% year-over-year increase. First quarter CapEx totaled $17.1 million and included investments for normal replacements as well as a corporate-wide information technology initiative. The company is updating adjusted fiscal 2016 earnings guidance to a continuing-operations basis. Excluding the contribution from the discontinued Medical business, Patterson’s prior adjusted guidance range on a continued-operations basis would have been $1.98 to $2.06 per share. With the June closing of the Animal Health International transaction, the company will include 10.5 months of results from these operations during fiscal 2016. This increases the adjusted earnings guidance range on a continuing operations basis to $2.40 to $2.50 per diluted share. For the full fiscal 2016 year, the company currently estimates CapEx of approximately $60 million to $70 million. The company expects to convert 100% of net income into free cash flow for the year.

Patterson Companies, Inc. (NasdaqGS:PDCO) will seek acquisitions after a short-term breather. Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Scott Anderson, said, "On the M&A front, I would say we're going to take a little short-term breather here.
