Ooredoo Launches Education Application for Children

Ooredoo launched Lamsa, an educational app for children that aims to address the needs of Arabic-speaking children through entertainment, education and interactivity, in Qatar. The application is designed for pre-schoolers up to six years old, and can be enjoyed by kids as young as 2-3 years, offering a collection of interactive stories, a wide range of entertainment content, colouring, rhymes and games. Lamsa is the first educational children's app that Ooredoo has added to its portfolio of mobile content and apps. The new service is available on iPhone, iPad and Android.

Ooredoo Announces Management Changes

Ooredoo has announced the joining of Rene Meza as the new CEO of its Myanmar business. Meza took over Ross Cormack, who has taken the decision to leave his position later this year. At present, Meza is serving as managing director of Vodacom Tanzania. Meza has will bring 17 years of international experience in emerging markets having held leadership positions in telecoms businesses in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Before working with Vodacom Tanzania, Meza was served as managing director of Airtel Kenya and Zain Kenya and he was also chief operating officer of Millicom Pakistan. Later in this year, Meza will join Ooredoo Myanmar later and there will be a handover period to assure a smooth transition in leadership.

Ooredoo Launches Next Generation Self-Service Kiosks

Ooredoo has announced the two of its next generation Self Service Machines (SSMs) at Katara cultural village and Hamad International Airport (HIA). The new SSMs will soon be primed to enable customers to instantly register and purchase pre-loaded Hala SIM cards, and also pay outstanding bills via cheque, as well as offer a host of services available on the current generation of SSMs. The SSM placed in Katara will be seen by a high number of tourists, while the HIA will be accessible to thousands of families and business travellers throughout the year. The HIA SSM is in the departures area, so that residents can pay their bills and upgrade their services before they travel. The next generation SSMs, launched at the end of 2014 on a trial basis, are currently available at strategic sites across Qatar including Souq Waqif and Ezdan Mall.
