OmniVision Technologies, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, and markets semiconductor image-sensor devices worldwide. The company’s principal products comprise CameraChip image sensors, which capture an image electronically and are used in various consumer and commercial mass-market applications; and CameraCubeChip imaging devices that are image sensors with integrated wafer-level optics. It also supplies companion chips used to connect its image sensors to various interfaces, such as the universal serial bus and other industry standard interfaces; and companion digital signal processors, which perform compression in standardized still photo and digital video formats. In addition, the company designs and develops software drivers for Linux, Mac OSX, and Microsoft Windows, as well as for embedded operating systems comprising Android, Blackberry OS, Symbian, Windows CE, Windows Embedded, and Windows Mobile. Further, it offers OV5670, a PureCel image sensor designed for front and rear-facing camera applications in smartphones and tablets; OV10640, an automotive image sensor; OV490, a companion chip that enables high-quality image and video processing; OV2740, a PureCel image sensor designed for front-facing cameras in smartphones, tablets, and notebooks; OV7676, a VGA image sensor; OV13860, OV16850, OV23850, OV21840, and OV16880, which are PureCel-S image sensors; OV10642 and WVGA OV10625 that are sensors designed primarily for automotive applications; and OV9750, an image sensor designed for the security market. The company sells its products directly to original equipment manufacturers and value added resellers, as well as indirectly through distributors. It serves mobile phone, entertainment, notebook and Webcam, digital still camera, security and surveillance, and automotive and medical markets. The company was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California.

OmniVision Technologies, Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended July 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported revenues were $329.891 million, as compared to $406.536 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2014. Income from operations was $14.955 compared to $32.157 for the same period of last year ago. Income before income taxes was $16.204 compared to $33.682 for the same period of last year ago. Net income was $18.242 million or $0.31 per diluted share, as compared to net income of $45.327 million, or $0.78 per diluted share in the first quarter of fiscal 2014. Non-GAAP net income was $28.575 million, or $0.46 per diluted share compared with net income of was $54.378 million, or $0.91 per diluted share. Direct sales to OEMs and VARs accounted for 69.7% of revenues in the first quarter fiscal 2016, a decrease from 76.5% in the prior quarter. The remainder of revenues came from sales through distributor channels. For the second quarter ending October 31, 2015, the company expects revenues will be in the range of $300 million to $330 million and GAAP net income per share will be between $0.12 and $0.27 per diluted share. Excluding the estimated expense and related tax effects associated with stock-based compensation, the company expects its non-GAAP net income per share will be between $0.25 and $0.40 per diluted share. The company expects GAAP income tax rate to be in the mid-teens percentage range and non-GAAP income tax rate to be in the high single-digit percentage range.

OmniVision Technologies, Inc. announced the OV13853, a high performance 13-megapixel PureCel™ image sensor that brings DSLR quality images and features to mainstream mobile devices. Leveraging OmniVision's proven 1.12-micron pixel technology, the OV13853 can achieve best-in-class high and low-light performance, while delivering support for advanced features such as phase detection autofocus (PDAF). The 1/3.06-inch OV13853 supports an active array of 4224 x 3136 pixels (13.2-megapixels) operating at 30 frames per second (FPS) with zero shutter lag, enabling seamless transition between recording video and still images. The sensor supports 4K2K ultra-high definition video at 30 FPS with full-horizontal field of view (FOV) and electronic image stabilization (EIS). The OV13853 can also record high frame rate 1080p HD video at 60 FPS with EIS to enable high quality video recording. The OV13853 fits into a compact 8.5 mm x 8.5 mm module with a z-height of less than 5 mm. The sensor is currently in volume production.
