omnivision technologies inc (OM3) Key Developments

OmniVision Technologies, Inc. Teams Up with Precision Optics Corporation, Inc. and Fujikura Ltd. to Usher in Next-Generation Medical Imaging

OmniVision Technologies, Inc. announced that it has partnered with preferred solution providers Precision Optics Corporation, Inc. (POC) and Fujikura Ltd. to develop the 160K CMOS imaging sensor (CIS) module, a quick go-to-market camera solution for OEMs. Utilizing OmniVision's new OV6946 CameraChip sensor with 400 x 400 pixel resolution, POC's Microprecision lens technology, and Fujikura's flexible micro-coaxial cable technology and small packaging capability, the 160K CIS module provides high quality images and video with a distal end diameter of only 1.60 mm. Evaluation units of the 160K CIS module are currently available, and volume production is expected to begin in 2016. The 160K CIS module specification can be found on Fujikura's website and videos demonstrating the 160K CIS module imaging can be found on POC's website.

OmniVision Launches Ultra-Compact CameraChip Sensor for Advanced Medical Imaging

OmniVision Technologies, Inc. announced a new ultra-compact CameraChip™ sensor for medical and industrial applications. The 1/18-inch OV6946 captures 400 x 400 pixel resolution images and video with excellent color fidelity in an extremely compact 0.9 x 0.9 mm package that consumes low power, making it an ideal camera solution for minimally-invasive, reusable endoscopy. Utilizing an advanced 1.75-micron OmniBSI+™ pixel, the OV6946 captures high quality 400 x 400 resolution images and video at 30 frames per second (FPS). The OV6946 enables minimally invasive endoscope module designs with a width of 1.65 mm and height of 5 mm. Additionally, the sensor's reduced pinout and basic ISP functionality offer extremely easy integration. The OV6946 is currently available for sampling and is expected to enter volume production in the third quarter of 2015.

OmniVision Launches the OV9734, 720p HD Sensor for Next-Gen Notebooks and Mobile Devices

OmniVision Technologies, Inc. announced the OV9734, the company's smallest 720p high-definition (HD) sensor for consumer applications. Built on OmniVision's PureCel technology, the OV9734 CameraChip delivers premium quality images and video, while consuming significantly less power than previous generation image sensors, making it an attractive camera solution for slim notebooks, tablets, handsets and other mobile devices that require thin bezels. The 1/9-inch OV9734 CameraChip sensor can capture 720p HD video at 30 frames per second (FPS) or VGA resolution at 45 FPS, meeting the premium video quality specifications for popular video conferencing platforms. The OV9734 utilizes OmniVision's proprietary PureCel technology to reduce common imaging noise, resulting in clean and crisp color images. Additionally, the OV9734 requires approximately 25% less power than previous generation OmniVision HD sensors, at just 70mW. To fit into ultra-thin bezel devices, the OV9734 comes in a package with a y-dimension that is 47% smaller than the previous generation OmniVision 720p sensors. The OV9734 is currently available for sampling, and is expected to enter volume production in the third quarter of 2015.
