origin energy ltd (OGFGF) Key Developments

Investors Seek Acquisition Of Iona Gas Plant

One week after billion-dollar offers were made for EnergyAustralia Holdings Limited's Iona Gas Plant, it's understood bidders are yet to receive any guidance about who, if anyone, is set to win the auction. The winner is not expected to be decided anytime this week or next, which should provide some hope for gas infrastructure heavyweight APA Group (ASX:APA). APA, advised by Morgan Stanley, made an offer conditional on the competition regulator's clearance, which is not due for another four weeks. You have to wonder whether the go slow is designed to assist APA or if EA and its Hong Kong parent really are unable to move quickly. APA and EA are understood to be confident the pipeline owner's bid can overcome the ACCC's statement of issues. Origin Energy Limited (ASX:ORG) and Energy Australia are in the spotlight as potential acquirers, even though neither would seem in prime condition for acquisitions.

Macquarie Seeks Bid For Origin Energy Shares

Macquarie Group Limited (ASX:MQG) will seek bids for 28 million Origin Energy Limited (ASX:ORG) shares, left over from the institutional component of the group's AUD 2.5 billion rights issue. Macquarie's equities desk is calling for bids in 10 increments from AUD 4 a share. Origin shares last traded at AUD 6.10 each.

Origin To Raise $2.5 billion Capital To Reduce Debt

Origin Energy Limited (ASX:ORG) has buckled under investor pressure over its highly geared balance sheet, announcing a $2.5 billion equity raising at a share price. The $800m of assets sales will be pursued over the next two years, with infrastructure, renewables and Origin's minority stake in the Santos-run Cooper Basin joint venture among assets in the spotlight. In order to reduce debt, Origin Energy intends to sell its international geothermal assets and some wind farm assets located in Australia. Origin will also sell wind farm assets that currently have power purchase agreements. The assets could include Stockyard Hill in Victoria and Cullerin Range wind farm in New South Wales.
