Oil-Dri Corporation of America mines, develops, manufactures, and markets sorbent products in the United States and internationally. It provides agricultural and horticultural products, including granular and powdered mineral absorbent products for crop protection chemical carriers, drying agents, bulk processing aids, growing media components, and seed enhancement media under the Agsorb, Verge, Flo-Fre, Terra-Green, and Pel-Unite brands. The company also offers animal health and nutrition products, such as enterosorbent products and animal feed pellet binders for the livestock feed industry under the Calibrin, ConditionAde, Pel-Unite, and Pel-Unite Plus brands; and sports products for use on baseball, softball, football, and soccer fields under the Pro’s Choice brand. In addition, it provides bleaching clay and purification aid products for bleaching, purification, and filtration applications under the Pure-Flo, Perform, Select, and Ultra-Clear brands; cat litter products, including coarse and scoopable products under the Cat’s Pride and Jonny Cat brands; and industrial and automotive sorbent products from clay, polypropylene, and recycled cotton materials to absorb oil, grease, water, and other types of spills under the Oil-Dri brand. The company’s customers include mass merchandisers, wholesale clubs, drugstore chains, pet specialty retail outlets, dollar stores and retail grocery stores, distributors of industrial cleanup and automotive products, environmental service companies, and sports field product users; processors and refiners of edible oils, petroleum-based oils, and biodiesel fuel; manufacturers of animal feed and agricultural chemicals; distributors of animal health and nutrition products; and marketers of consumer products. It sells its products through sales force, food brokers, distributors, and catalogs and the Internet. Oil-Dri Corporation of America was founded in 1941 and is based in Chicago, Illinois.

Oil-Dri Corp. of America announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended January 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported net sales of $64,643,000 compared with net sales of $69,305,000 in the same quarter one year ago. Operating income was $4,281,000 compared to $5,734,000 for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $3,886,000 compared to $5,530,000 for the same period a year ago. Net income for the second quarter was $2,797,000, or $0.39 per diluted share, down from $4,281,000, or $0.60 per diluted share, in the second quarter of fiscal 2014. For the six months, the company reported net sales of $130,687,000, a 2% decrease compared with net sales of $132,851,000 in the same period one year ago. Net income was $4,917,000, or $0.69 per diluted share, down from net income of $7,168,000 or $1.01 per diluted share, in the same period of fiscal 2014. Operating income was $7,441,000 compared to $10,076,000 for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $6,751,000 compared to $9,423,000 for the same period a year ago. Capital expenditures for the six-month period totaled $9,920,000 which was $3,984,000 more than depreciation and amortization of $5,936,000. By comparison, capital expenditures totaled $6,782,000 in the first six months of fiscal 2014. Capital expenditures were made for new processing and packaging equipment as well as replacements for existing plant and equipment that has exceeded its useful life. Cash provided by operating activities was $10,607,000 for the period, which was $8,207,000 higher than the $2,400,000 in the first six months of fiscal 2014. The primary reason for the change between years was the decrease in working capital.
