Orbital ATK, Inc. designs, builds, and delivers space, defense, and aviation-related systems in the United States and internationally. It operates through three segments: Flight Systems Group, Defense Systems Group, and Space Systems Group. The Flight Systems Group segment develops rockets that are used as small-and medium-class space launch vehicles to place satellites into Earth orbit and escape trajectories; interceptor and target vehicles for missile defense systems; suborbital launch vehicles that place payloads into various high-altitude trajectories; rocket propulsion systems for human and cargo launch vehicles; strategic missiles; missile defense interceptors and target vehicles; composite structures for military and commercial aircraft and launch structures markets; and illuminating flares and aircraft countermeasures. The Defense Systems Group segment develops and produces military ammunition; small-caliber commercial ammunition; precision weapons and munitions; high-performance gun systems; propellant and energetic materials; propulsion systems for tactical missiles and missile defense applications; strike weapons; aircraft survivability systems; fuzes and warheads; special mission aircraft; airborne missile warning systems; defense electronics; and advanced anti-radiation guided missile and multi-stage supersonic target products. The Space Systems Group segment offers small-and medium-class satellites that are used to enable global and regional communications and broadcasting; conduct space-related scientific research; and perform other activities related to national security. This segment also provides human-rated space systems for Earth-orbit and deep-space exploration, including re-supplying the international space station; and spacecraft components and subsystems, as well as specialized engineering and operations services to the United States government agencies. The company is headquartered in Dulles, Virginia.

Lockheed Martin Signs Contract with Orbital ATK for Propellant and Pressurant Tanks for its Modernized A2100 Satellite Platform

Lockheed Martin has signed a contract with Orbital ATK for propellant and pressurant tanks for its modernized A2100 satellite platform. Under the new five-year contract, Orbital ATK will supply flight sets for A2100 satellites until March 2020. Flight sets consist of a hybrid composite pair of liquid propellant tanks, a pair of high-pressure/high-performance, titanium-lined pressurant tanks, and, as required, a pair of titanium-lined ion propulsion xenon tanks. The liquid propellant tanks contain a high-performance Propellant Management Device (PMD) designed and analyzed by PMD Technologies. Orbital ATK has supplied all but two of the flight sets for the A2100 platform since the mid-1990s.

Orbital ATK, Inc. Announces Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended July 5, 2015; Revises Financial Guidance for the Year 2015

Orbital ATK, Inc. announced consolidated earnings results for the second calendar quarter and six months ended July 5, 2015. The company reported GAAP revenues of $1,130 million for the second quarter of 2015 compared to $714 million in the same quarter in 2014. GAAP operating income was $125.8 million in the quarter compared to operating income from continuing operations of $71.8 million in the comparable period last year. The company reported GAAP earnings per diluted share of $1.22 in the 2015 second quarter compared to earnings per diluted share of $0.96 in the comparable 2014 quarter. Free cash flow was negative $37.2 million in the quarter ended July 5, 2015. The company reported adjusted revenues of $1,130 million in the second quarter of 2015 compared to adjusted revenues of $1,055 million in the comparable period of 2014. Adjusted operating income and adjusted profit margin were $131.6 million and 11.6%, respectively, in the second quarter of 2015 compared to $115.8 million and 11.0%, respectively, in the same quarter of 2014. Adjusted earnings per share in the quarter were $1.28 compared to $1.10 in the same period of 2014. Adjusted free cash flow was negative of $5.5 million in the quarter ended July 5, 2015. The increases in net income and earnings per share in the 2015 second quarter as compared to the same period last year were attributable to the improvement in adjusted operating income results.  Net cash used in continuing operating activities was $11.0 million compared to $22.5 million for the same period a year ago. Capital expenditures were $26.2 million compared to $18.5 million for the same period a year ago. For the six months the company reported adjusted revenues of $2,246 million compared to $2,210 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted operating income was $248.3 million compared to $190.1 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted net income was $144.1 million compared to $105.4 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were $2.41 compared to $1.76 for the same period a year ago. Revenue was $2,229 million compared to $1,505 million for the same period a year ago. Operating income was $124.7 million compared to $149.9 million for the same period a year ago. Net income was $144.1 million compared to $105.4 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were $2.41 compared to $1.76 for the same period a year ago. Net cash provided by continuing operating activities was $132.2 million. Capital expenditures were $77.5 million. Adjusted free cash flow was $53.2 million. The company revised financial guidance for calendar year 2015. For the year the company expects revenues of $4,425 million to $4,500 million compared to $4,350 million to $4,450 million in previous 2015 guidance. Diluted earnings per share of $4.60 to $4.80 compared to $4.40 to $4.60 in previous 2015 guidance. Free cash flow of $225 million to $275 million compared to $225 million to $275 million in previous 2015 guidance. The company currently expects interest expense of approximately $60 million and an effective tax rate of approximately 34% for the year, assuming the retroactive extension of the federal research and development tax credit for the full year 2015. Capital expenditures are projected at about $150 million for the year.
