Northwest Bancshares, Inc. operates as a bank holding company for Northwest Savings Bank that offers various personal and business banking solutions, investment management and trust services, and insurance products. The company operates through two segments, Community Banking and Consumer Finance. It offers personal and business deposits, such as checking accounts, savings accounts, money market deposit accounts, term certificate accounts, and individual retirement accounts. Its loan portfolio comprise one-to-four-family residential real estate loans, short term consumer loans, multi-family residential and commercial real estate loans, commercial business loans, and home equity loans and lines of credit, as well as consumer loans, including automobile loans, sales finance loans, unsecured personal loans, credit card loans, and loans secured by deposit accounts. The company also offers trust, investment management, actuarial and benefit plan administration, brokerage services, title insurance, and municipal bonds, as well as property and casualty, and employer benefit plan insurance services. As of December 31, 2013, it operated 165 community-banking offices in central and western Pennsylvania, western New York, eastern Ohio, and Maryland; and 50 consumer finance offices in Pennsylvania. The company was founded in 1896 and is headquartered in Warren, Pennsylvania.

Northwest Bancshares, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported net income of $16.2 million, or $0.18 per diluted share. This represents an increase of $1.6 million, or 10.7%, compared to the same quarter last year when net income was $14.6 million, or $0.16 per diluted share. The annualized returns on average shareholders' equity and average assets were 6.17% and 0.83% compared to 5.15% and 0.75% for the same quarter last year. Net interest income increased by $732,000, or 1.2%, to $61.6 million from $60.8 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2014. This increase was due primarily to an increase in interest income on loans receivable of $1.4 million and a decrease in interest paid on deposit accounts of $724,000. Income before income taxes was $22,995,000 against $19,855,000 a year ago.
