It operates through five segments: Regional Communications Business, Long Distance and International Communications Business, Mobile Communications Business, Data Communications Business, and Other Business. The company offers regional communications services, including intra-prefectural communications and related ancillary services; long distance and international communications services, such as inter-prefectural communications, international communications, solution business, and related services; mobile communications services, including mobile phone services and related services; and data communications services, such as system integration and network system services. It also provides financial services, such as issuing leases and credit cards; real estate services, including building rentals and apartment sales; systems development services; and construction-related services, such as the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings. In addition, the company engages in strategic planning, designing, installing, and operating data communications systems and computer network-based information systems, as well as providing IT services. As of March 31, 2015, it had 18,716 thousand FTTH service subscriptions; 1,219 thousand ADSL service subscriptions; 24,344 thousand fixed-line telephone service and ISDN service subscriptions; 11,586 thousand ISP service subscriptions; and 66,595 thousand mobile broadband and voice communications subscribers. The company was founded in 1952 and is based in Tokyo, Japan.

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation and Panasonic Corporation Tie Up for Innovative Visual Communication

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation and Panasonic Corporation announced that the two companies have agreed to enter into a business alliance with the aim of achieving 'visual service innovations' and 'evolution of user experience'toward 2020 and beyond. Specifically, the two companies will develop and propose standard models for new visual communication by combining NTT's expertise in broadband solutions and Panasonic's capability in providing high-definition visual solutions. Major areas of collaboration under the agreement include the following: Visual entertainment: NTT and Panasonic will leverage their combined strengths in high-definition AV devices/systems and broadband services to offer functionality that allows, for example, spectators at a stadium to enjoy their preferred video contents, as well as that delivers immersive images throughout Japan and abroad. The companies aim to apply these synergy effects not only to stadiums but also to a variety of visual entertainment business segments. Security & safety: The two companies will provide assistance to help ensure a secure and safe living environment with their visual monitoring systems and cyber security technologies. The partners will also make efforts to create a society that is friendly to everyone including foreign visitors and senior citizens by offering services that deliver necessary information on demand.

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation Launches Secret Sharing Engine

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) has developed a high-speed secret sharing engine dubbed 'Super High-speed Secret Sharing (SHSS)' applicable for the OpenStack Swift open source object storage software. NT's Secret Sharing Engine enables compatible secure storage products to be built with the erasure code framework of OpenStack Swift. This technology is expected to be used in secure storage products corresponding to this growth in confidential data. The developed technology is being introduced at a panel discussion session of the OpenStack Summit in Vancouver.
