Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha provides ocean, land, and air transportation services in Japan, North America, Europe, Asia, and internationally. It offers various logistics services, including liner trade services, such as container shipping, and terminal and stevedoring services; and air cargo transportation services. The company is also engaged in the bulk shipping business comprising cars transportation, car terminals development, and inland transportation networks construction; dry bulk transportation of natural resources comprising iron ore, coal, and wood-chips; tanker transportation service for petroleum, petrochemical, and energy companies; and liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation, as well as involved in the upstream areas of the supply chain for oil and natural gas. In addition, it operates luxury-class cruise ships; and manages commercial and residential buildings, as well as is involved in the research and development to improve ship-operating technologies and logistics solutions. As of March 31, 2014, the company’s fleet include 172 handysize bulk carriers, 114 panamax bulk carriers, 129 capesize bulk carriers, 52 conventional ships/multipurpose carriers, 101 containerships, 49 wood-chip carriers, 125 car carriers, 77 tankers, 29 LNG carriers, 3 cruise ships, and 26 other carriers. Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha was founded in 1885 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia II Persero, Mitsui & Co, Ltd. and PSA International Pte Ltd Jointly Construct and Operate New Container Terminal At Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, Indonesia

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, or NYK Line, PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia II Persero, or IPC, Mitsui & Co Ltd., and PSA International Pte Ltd. have announced that they will jointly construct and operate a new container terminal at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, Indonesia. This new terminal will be developed and operated by the newly established project company PT New Priok Container Terminal One. The new terminal will have an annual handling capacity of approximately 1.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units of containers, an overall berth length of 850 metres, and a 16-metre draft upon completion, allowing the terminal to accommodate the advanced mega container vessels plying the oceans. NPCT1 will also pursue the efficient reduction of emissions, and energy conservation and environmental protection activities such as a Green Terminal by exploring the use of environmentally friendly facilities such as cold ironing. Together with its partners, Mitsui, NYK Line and IPC, PSA will leverage on its global expertise and experience in operating container terminals worldwide and in training skilled port professionals to develop NPCT1 into a world-class facility to support Indonesia's growing economy and facilitate the expanding maritime trade.

The US justice authorities fined Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha $59.4 million for conspiring with other companies to fix the prices of transporting cars to and from the United States. Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha agreed to plead guilty to a one-count felony criminal charge in the scheme, which spanned the period of 1997-2012, and pay the fine.
