northrop grumman corp (NOC) Key Developments

Northrop Grumman Corporation Licenses Patented Technology to Improve Cooling of Electronic Modules for Commercial and Military Applications

Northrop Grumman Corporation has licensed its air-flow-through (AFT) cooling technology, used to improve the cooling of high-power electronics, to GE Intelligent Platforms. AFT technology improves the air cooling of advanced electronic modules by incorporating a novel heat exchanger design that helps protect the modules. AFT is capable of 175 watts of cooling per module and meets the electronic industry's VMEbus International Trade Association (VITA) 48.5 standard. The VITA standards organization is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Northrop Grumman Corporation Wins $267 Million Contract by the U.S. Navy to Develop and Manufacture the Next-Generation Surface Electronic Warfare System

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded a $267 million contract by the U.S. Navy to develop and manufacture the next-generation surface electronic warfare system. The Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP) Block 3 will enhance the AN/SLQ-32 electronic warfare attack system through a series of upgrades that add new technologies and capabilities for early detection, signal analysis, threat warning and protection from anti-ship missiles. Since the introduction of Northrop Grumman's AN/SLQ-32(V)1 in 1974, the company has been a leader in surface Navy electronic warfare and has been involved in every version upgrade. This latest contract award enables Northrop Grumman, serving as prime integrator, to utilize its expertise in electronic warfare and active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology. Northrop Grumman's SEWIP Block 3 solution features active and passive arrays, performing electronic warfare and communications functions with continuous 360-degree coverage. The system interfaces with the ship's combat management system and multi-mission technology provides unprecedented situational awareness to effectively detect, track and engage threats in high-clutter environments.

Northrop Grumman Corporation Unveils Citadel Enterprise Battle Command System at IDEX

Northrop Grumman Corporation is introducing its Citadel Enterprise Battle Command System at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2015, taking place February 22-26. Northrop Grumman's Citadel Enterprise Battle Command System is a rapidly deployable and mobile command and control (C2) system that presents a ground-breaking approach to allied integrated air and missile defence. Citadel solves the complex challenge of integrating air and missile defence systems: how to leverage all available sensors and weapon systems to provide warfighters a single understandable air picture. Citadel can replace older, closed/proprietary air defence C2 systems that are difficult and costly to integrate, upgrade and modernize. Through optimal networking of weapon systems and sensors, the system delivers a single integrated air picture to provide warfighters the ability to make better, timelier decisions for accurate engagements and to reduce fratricide. Citadel uses the most recent and rigorous military standards to implement cybersecurity for mitigating the latest cyber threats. By decreasing single points of failure and providing wider area surveillance and broader protection, Citadel enables commanders to more effectively deploy scarce air and missile defence resources. Citadel's distributed fire control network easily incorporates current and future sensors and weapon systems for the flexibility to contend with the evolving threat and budget environment. In addition, the use of the Modular Open Systems Approach and extensive commercial off-the-shelf components lower total life cycle maintenance costs. Northrop Grumman built upon its leadership position pioneering open systems integration, joint command and control and missile defence to develop the Citadel Enterprise Battle Command System. The Citadel system is designed to ensure secure interoperability with U.S. and coalition forces to optimize the air and missile defence protection that saves lives.
