Its Electronic Systems segment offers solutions for sensing, understanding, anticipating, and controlling operating environment to military, civil, and commercial customers. This segment provides various defense electronics and systems, airborne fire control radars, situational awareness systems, early warning systems, electronic warfare systems, air defense radars and management systems, navigation systems, communications systems, marine power and propulsion systems, space systems, and logistics services. The company’s Information Systems segment offers advanced solutions for Department of Defense, national intelligence, federal civilian, state, international, and commercial customers. This segment provides products and services primarily in the fields of command and control, communications, cybersecurity, air and missile defense, intelligence processing, civil security, health information technology, and government support systems. Its Technical Services segment provides logistics, modernization, and sustainment support; and other advanced technology and engineering services, including space, missile defense, nuclear security, training, and simulation services. The company was founded in 1939 and is based in Falls Church, Virginia.

Northrop Grumman Corporation Signs Long-Term Agreement with Raytheon for LN-200 Inertial Measurement Units

Northrop Grumman Corporation has entered a long-term agreement with Raytheon Company to supply its LN-200 Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for Raytheon optical targeting systems. The long-term agreement with Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems business extends through 2018. The LN-200 provides camera stabilization on optical targeting systems that conduct long-range surveillance and target acquisition for various guided munitions. An initial purchase order valued at $2 million was placed in December. The LN-200 IMU is a small, lightweight and versatile device that can be used for instrument stabilization, for motion compensation and as a backup navigation sensor. The IMU comprises three fiber-optic gyros and three silicon micro-electro-mechanical system accelerometers in a compact package that measures velocity and angle changes. The LN-200 is hermetically sealed and contains no moving parts, ensuring low noise, high reliability and extended shelf life.

Northrop Grumman Partners with the California Institute of Technology to Develop a Space-Based Solarpower System

Northrop Grumman has partnered with the California Institute of Technology to develop a space-based solarpower system. The partners will focus on technologies such as ultra-light photovoltaics, ultra-light deployable space structures and phased array and power transmission. Under the sponsored research agreement, the company will spend around $17.5m over three years. The Space Solar Power Initiative (SSPI) will bring together electrical engineers, applied physicists, and aerospace engineers.

Northrop Grumman Corporation Appoints Robert J. Gough as Vice President of Combat Avionics Systems Business Unit within its Electronic Systems Sector

Northrop Grumman Corporation has appointed Robert J. Gough vice president of the Combat Avionics Systems business unit within its Electronic Systems sector, effective immediately. In his new position, Gough will have executive responsibility for the sector's combat avionics portfolio, including radars for the F-16, F-22A, F-35 Lightning II, and other aircraft as well as other avionic sensor systems. Most recently, he served as director of Operations in the Information Systems Communications division, responsible for execution and optimization of division processes, including leadership of programs, engineering, product lines, technology and a variety of other day-to-day functions.
