Materion Corporation manufactures and sells advanced engineered materials used in consumer electronics, industrial components, medical, automotive electronics, energy, telecommunications infrastructure, defense, and commercial aerospace markets worldwide. The company operates through three segments: Performance Alloys and Composites, Advanced Materials, and Other. The Performance Alloys and Composites segment provides strip products, including thin gauge precision strips, and thin diameter rod and wire; copper and nickel-based alloys manufactured in plate, rod, bar, tube, and other customized forms; beryllium hydroxide; and beryllium products, such as beryllium and aluminum metal matrix composites, beryllia ceramics, and bulk metallic glass materials. This segment also produces strip metal products with clad inlay and overlay metals consisting of precious and base metals electroplated systems, electron beam welded systems, contour profiled systems, and solder-coated metal systems. The Advanced Materials segment provides advanced chemicals, microelectronics packaging, precious metal, non-precious metal, and specialty metal products, including vapor deposition targets, frame lid assemblies, clad and precious metal pre-forms, high temperature braze materials, and ultra-fine wire. Its products are used in semiconductor, wireless, LED, and data storage applications within the consumer electronics, industrial components, and telecommunications infrastructure markets, as well as energy, medical, defense, and science markets. The Other segment offers sputter-coated precision thin film coatings and optical filter materials. The company distributes its products through a combination of company-owned facilities, and independent distributors and agents. The company was formerly known as Brush Engineered Materials Inc. and changed its name to Materion Corporation in 2011. Materion Corporation was founded in 1931 and is headquartered in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.

Materion Corporation reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended July 03, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported net sales of $276.9 million, compared to net sales of $288.0 million for the second quarter of 2014. Operating profit was $12.8 million, a 20% increase over the prior-year second quarter adjusted operating profit of $10.7 million. Net income was $8.9 million, or $0.43 per diluted share compared to net income of $10.0 million, or $0.47 per diluted share, for the second quarter of the prior year. Excluding the net insurance settlement benefit recorded in the second quarter of 2014, earnings were up 19% compared to the second quarter 2014 adjusted earnings of $0.36 per share, diluted. Income before income taxes was $12,171,000 compared to $13,896,000 a year ago. The company's balance sheet remains strong in the second quarter as net debt remains relatively low at $24 million and the company continues to have significant available liquidity to support meaningful organic growth opportunities as well as to pursue strategic growth alternatives. For the first six months of 2015, net sales were $566.9 million compared to net sales of $546.9 million for the same period of last year. Net income was $18.5 million as compared to $17.3 million in the comparable period of the prior year. Excluding special items in both periods, adjusted earnings grew 31% year over year, from $0.64 per share, diluted, in the first half of 2014, to $0.84 per share, diluted, in the first half of 2015. Operating profit was $27,045,000 compared to $25,621,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $25,738,000 compared to $24,254,000 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share were $0.90 compared to $0.82 a year ago. Net cash provided from operating activities were $21,043,000 compared to net cash used in operating activities of $1,484,000 for the same period a year ago. Payments for purchase of property, plant and equipment was $16,564,000 compared to $12,859,000 a year ago. Payments for mine development were $10,100,000 compared to $337,000 a year ago. The company is revising its 2015 adjusted earnings forecast range to $1.65 to 1.85 per share. This represents a range that is flat to 12% above 2014 adjusted earnings of $1.65 per share, diluted. Additionally, the company forecasts spending $30 million to $35 million on internal capital projects during the full year 2015. The company anticipates to generate free cash flow from operating activities in excess of $50 million given the continued liquidation going to see on some of the inventory and working capital. For the third quarter of 2015, the company expects adjusted earnings to be comparable to slightly below the average adjusted earnings in the first two quarters of 2015.
