Marvell Partners with Celeno Communications to Provide Wireless Video Solution

Celeno Communications and Marvell announced a partnership that will see Marvell’s ARMADA 1500 family of multi-media processors and connectivity solution combined with Celeno’s 802.11ac Access Point chips to power a wireless video experience in the home that can reliably handle 4K or HD video streaming alongside regular data applications. This combined solution is designed to meet the growing demand for linear TV, Video-on-Demand and OTT services to multiple screens and mobile devices throughout the home, all while ensuring the high levels of reliability and performance. The Celeno CL2348 802.11ac Wave 2 chip and the CL2330 802.11ac chip provide a powerful access point technology in the home gateway. Utilizing Celeno’s concurrent dual band Wi-Fi module, the Gateway will be able to stream high-quality video using both the 2.4GHz and uncongested 5GHz bands. Marvell’s ARMADA 1500 family of multi-media processors will power set top boxes, TVs and 4K platforms, leveraging the company’s Qdeo™ video processing, TV tuner, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity chip to ensure a robust video connection. Celeno’s chips also include Celeno’s airtime management technology OptimizAIR 2.0, which will enable the separation of multiple concurrent video and data streams as well as ensure the higher capacity and superlative QoS required for 4K as compared to HD streaming. With OptimizAIR 2.0, Service Providers can virtualize their Wi-Fi Access Point into multiple portioned networks. For example, STBs powered by the ARMADA 1500 will be put on one virtual Wi-Fi network with guaranteed capacity for multiple 4K HD streams, while other consumer devices will be allocated to a separate network ensuring user experience is satisfied across all devices.

Marvell Extends Lead in Android Set-Top Box Segment with Launch of ARMADA 1500 Ultra Platform for 4K Entertainment

Marvell added the ARMADA 1500 Ultra (88DE3218) system-on-chip (SoC) to its ARMADA 1500 family. The ARMADA 1500 Ultra's Quad Core 14K DMIPS ARM A53 CPU, 8-core GPU, carrier-grade security and power management techniques are designed to enable PayTV operators and set-top box (STB) manufacturers to cost-effectively deliver small form factor devices with 4K entertainment and gaming services to their subscribers. With its 64-bit ARM CPU, Marvell is the first silicon provider to bring the 64-bit ARM architecture both to the mobile and the payTV segments, thereby enabling the unification of the application developer ecosystem. The ARMADA 1500 Ultra offers a complete platform solution for operators, providing support for video SoCs, Wi-Fi and Internet of Things services. Marvell's video processing IP includes an enhanced Qdeo Video Processor that addresses the Ultra HD content services being launched by PayTV operators for an immersive TV experience. With its quad-core ARM A53 64-bit CPU and 51 GFLOP GPU, the ARMADA 1500 Ultra's innovative architecture combines impressive processing power in an astonishingly small package, which is four times smaller than other SoCs on the market, enabling powerful and aesthetically appealing compact STB designs. The SoC also features a sophisticated security processor supporting leading conditional access systems (CAS) solutions from Verimatrix to meet the strict standards of service operators and content partners, building on Marvell's legacy of supporting the first Android STB with CAS. Key features of the ARMADA 1500 Ultra HD SoC include: 2,160p60 10 bit HEVC & VP9 Video Decode, 1,080p PiP and trans coding with patented scaling techniques for best-in-class video experience; Up to 14K DMIPs (1.5 GHz) Quad Core ARM A53 64-bit CPU allows operators to deploy rich media/web-based TV applications and Android TV services for an enhanced viewing experience; 8 core GPU, 8 shader Vivante GC7000XS with hardware tessellation and geometry shaders optimized for the Android gaming ecosystem enables operators to deploy compelling gaming services to TV subscribers; Robust security engine, trusted rendering path with TrustZone, and hardware support for video watermarking technologies such as Verimatrix VideoMark and Civolution NexGuard; Strong portfolio of SDKs including Android TV and RDK enables service providers to quickly deploy a wider library of content and applications across all screens Marvell SDKs have been proven in multiple generations of Android set-top boxes deployed since 2012; and Marvell's advanced Wi-Fi and Bluetooth solutions, the Avastar 88W8897 (2x2 11ac) and 88W8,864 (4x4 11ac).

SendTek Selects Marvell's 88LX3142 G.hn Digital Baseband Processor and 88LX2718 G.hn

Marvell announced that SendTek has selected Marvell's 88LX3142 G.hn digital baseband processor and 88LX2718 G.hn analog front end for integration into SendTek Coax and Phoneline adapters. SendTek has announced four new designs based on Marvell G.hn silicon: G.hn Coax Gigabit Ethernet Bridge CES-832; Wi-Fi G.hn Coax Gigabit Ethernet Bridge CES-832N; G.hn Phoneline Gigabit Ethernet Bridge PES821; and Wi-Fi G.hn Phoneline Gigabit Ethernet Bridge PES-821N. SendTek's Coax Gigabit Ethernet Bridge CES-832 takes advantage of G.hn coax port to establish a robust home network backbone by using existing coaxial cables. Featuring two 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet Ports and a built-in filter to avoid TV channels, CES-832 can seamlessly connect any Ethernet interface-based devices such as set-top boxes, camera servers and Ethernet switches, ensuring a reliable Gigabit performance for users to enjoy 4K video services. G.hn Phoneline Gigabit Ethernet Bridge PES-821 is joining the product line of SendTek for advanced home networking applications, designed to enable service providers to upgrade their FTTH broadband and IPTV services, with minimum investment, by utilizing already deployed phoneline cables to deliver Gigabit content, which are supplied from the fiber access network from the carrier's central office (CO), to the inside of the home. SendTek's G.hn Phoneline Gigabit Ethernet Bridge PES-82x offers spectrum options to ensure G.hn coexistence with PSTN, HomePNA and xDSL services. The G.hn Wi-Fi extenders, CES-832N and PES-821N, featuring MIMO 2x2 Wi-Fi IEEE802.11n, enable carriers to deliver rock-solid Wi-Fi services anywhere at home, and provide users with seamless access to next-generation broadband services. Marvell G.hn enables fast and powerful connectivity at data rates up to 1 Gbit/s over standard home wiring, including electrical wires, coaxial cables, twisted pair phoneline and optical fiber, for the delivery of multimedia content to smart homes.
