mellanox technologies ltd (MLNX) Key Developments

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. Announces Commercial Deployments of LinkX 100Gb/s Cables in 100Gb/s Networks

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. announced commercial deployments of its new 100Gb/s LinkX active optical cables (AOCs) and direct attach copper cables (DACs) for data center and high performance computing applications. The new LinkX cables use the high-density, low-power, low-cost QSFP28 form factor, enabling 36 ports in a 1U switch, making 100Gb/s deployments as easy as 10Gb/s. Mellanox 100Gb/s Active Optical Cables take advantage of a new generation of ICs which fully integrate multiple 25Gb/s clock and data recovery functions (CDR). At the same time, these ICs dramatically reduce power consumption for the optical engine to far less than 3.5W, the requirement of the small QSFP package. Mellanox subjects its products to a full system test in a stressed environment. Network engineers don’t have to waste time debugging a new installation with untested products. With LinkX products, installation experts can bring up new clusters fast, with fewer interconnect problems and higher quality and signal integrity. All commercial versions of LinkX interconnect products endure full system testing to Bit Error Rate (BER) 10-15 in order to maximize overall data center performance. BER 10-15 provides 1,000X fewer transmission errors than many competing products. Fewer transmission errors translate to fewer retries, higher system performance, and more revenue generating traffic.

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. Introduces Next Generation 100Gb/S Silicon Photonics Transceivers

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. introduced three new LinkX 100Gb/s solutions with a live demonstration at the OFC 2015 Conference (Booth 2419). All LinkX 100Gb/s transceivers and cables support the high-density, low-power, QSFP28 connector-based Switch-IB switch platform. The Switch-IB 36-port 100Gb/s InfiniBand switch delivers 7.2Tb/s of aggregate throughput in a 1U, ultra-dense end-to-end platform. The robustness, density and standard QSFP connectors and cables enables 100Gb/s networks to be as easy to deploy as 10Gb/s. 100Gb/s Silicon Photonics Transceivers: At OFC 2015, Mellanox introduces its 100Gb/s 1550nm Parallel Single Mode transceiver in the QSFP28 form factor, capable of reaches up to 2km. Using a new generation of LinkX drivers, TIAs and silicon photonics chips, the low-power transceiver consumes a maximum of 3.5W, 2.5x more efficient than most 40G QSFP solutions. The new silicon photonics transceiver provides data centers with a 2km reach, high-density, low-cost solution using single mode fiber.100Gb/s VCSEL Transceivers: Mellanox also introduces its 100G VCSEL transceiver in the QSFP28 form factor with reaches of 100m over multi-mode fiber (MMF). New drivers and TIAs enable a low-power, low-cost solution for existing installations of OM3 or OM4 fiber. The transceiver consumes only 2.0W (maximum) with no retiming, and 2.8W (maximum) with full retiming. 100Gb/s Splitters to connect 100G ports to 25G and 50G ports: New copper splitter breakout cables efficiently interconnect 100Gb/s QSFP28 switch ports to a new generation of high performance servers and storage appliances with 25G and 50G ports. Using zero power, they are the low-power, green solution for connectivity inside the rack.OFC Demonstration features plug and play 100Gb/s LinkX cables and transceivers in end-to-end network using new generation of 7.2Tb/s switches and 100Gb/s adapters. At the core of the demonstration are multiple Mellanox Switch-IB EDR 100Gb/s InfiniBand switches which achieve port-to-port latency of less than 90ns. Switch-IB has 36-ports of 100Gb/s to provide 7.2Tb/s of switching capacity and ultra-low latency and power consumption. Compared to the previous generation of InfiniBand switches, Switch-IB delivers nearly twice the throughput per port with half the latency. To ensure that all LinkX cables and transceivers work the first time and every time, Mellanox subjects its products to a full system test in a stressed environment.

Mellanox Technologies Announces Multi-Host Technology, Enabling Compute and Storage Rack Design for Scalable Clouds and Data Centers

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. announced Mellanox Multi-Host, an innovative technology that provides high flexibility and major savings in building scalable Cloud, Web 2.0 and high-performance data centers. The new technology enables designing and building new scale-out heterogeneous compute and storage racks with direct connectivity between compute elements, storage elements and the network, better power and performance management, while achieving maximum data processing and data transfer at minimum capital and operational expenses. Mellanox Multi-Host technology enables direct connectivity of multiple hosts to a single network controller, while keeping each host completely independent from the others. Moreover, the hosts can be based on different CPU architecture and dedicated Quality of Service and host management channels are guaranteed to each of the hosts. At the same time, the hosts share the same network interface thus saving on switch ports, cables, real estate and power. The direct connectivity between the multiple hosts and the centralized network controller enables direct data access with lowest latency, overcoming performance bottlenecks due to the current server NUMA architecture. Furthermore, it enables better utilization of lower performance CPUs which now can share network aggregation directly from the network controller.
