Michelin Launches First Summer Tyre Certified for Winter Use

Michelin announced that motorists will soon be able to purchase a summer tyre that has been certified for use in winter, following the unveiling of an all-new tyre dubbed by Michelin as one of its most important launches for a decade. Combining summer and winter tyre technologies, the new Michelin CrossClimate range offers the same levels of grip, road holding, energy efficiency and durability expected of a Michelin summer tyre, while maintaining winter performance comparable to that of a Michelin winter tyre. The new CrossClimate range stands out for its impressive braking performance in the dry, combined with achieving the top ‘A’ rating for wet braking under European tyre labelling legislation. It is also approved for winter use even in countries that require special equipment for winter driving, with the new tyres carrying the Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake (3PMSF) certification on the sidewall. The new Michelin CrossClimate tyre range will be available in Europe from May 2015, initially in 23 sizes ranging from 15 to 17 inches and covering 70% of cars sold on the European market, as well as many makes of car-derived vans. Other sizes are scheduled for introduction in 2016.

Michelin has announced that it will launch six new motorcycle hypersport and track tires in 2015. Designed to meet the needs of all riders, from the professional racer to the track-day enthusiast, the lineup incorporates the latest cutting edge technologies tested on the track in order to provide maximum safety, performance and riding enjoyment. The six new tires include: MICHELIN Power SuperMoto; MICHELIN Power Slick Ultimate; MICHELIN Power Cup Ultimate; MICHELIN Power Slick Evo; MICHELIN Power Cup Evo; and MICHELIN Power SuperSport Evo. MICHELIN Power SuperMoto features a new 16-inch version and innovative rubber compounds that significantly and simultaneously improve handling, feedback from the front, grip and longevity. Designed for experienced pilots looking to clock high speeds, MICHELIN Power Slick Ultimate range is directly derived from the latest technological advances tested on the circuit. MICHELIN Power Cup Ultimate tire is the treaded version of the MICHELIN Power Slick Ultimate. It is approved for road use. The MICHELIN Power Slick Evo is intended for the track and is ideal for weekend racing. Easy to handle, it features MICHELIN Adaptive Casing Technology (ACT) and a new highly versatile rubber compound that avoids having to make difficult tire choices depending on weather and circuit conditions. MICHELIN Power Cup Evo tire is the treaded version of the MICHELIN Power Slick Evo. It is approved for road use. The MICHELIN Power SuperSport Evo is designed for both road and track use. It delivers excellent longevity and wet and dry performance, to a combination of new rubber compounds and MICHELIN Adaptive Casing Technology (ACT). The rollout of these six new tires in 2015 bears testimony to Michelin's passion for sports, a passion dedicated to bikers from all horizons. Racing means a lot more to Michelin however. As a longstanding component of the company's DNA and philosophy, racing is an ideal laboratory for testing new technologies in the most extreme conditions of use. The synergy between racing and hypersport tire development is particularly relevant.
