Edison Claims $7.57 Billion Compensation from Mitsubishi for US Nuclear Plant Shutdown

Southern California Edison (SCE) and Edison Material Supply LLC (EMS) have increased compensation claims from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Mitsubishi Nuclear Energy Systems to $7.57 billion, relating to the shutdown of the San Onofre nuclear facility in California, US. SCE, which is a unit of US-based Edison International, and others had previously sought at least $4 billion through the dispute. Under the compensation claim, SCE alleges that MHI failed to properly design or promptly repair defective steam generators at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS). Along wth three other companies, SCE has filed a complaint supporting the charges before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), which is acting as the arbitrator for the issue.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. Receives Order for 80 Large-Scale Centrifugal Chillers, with Combined 200,000 Refrigeration Tons Cooling Capacity from Saudi Arabia

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) has received an order for 80 units of its large-scale centrifugal chillers for the district cooling plant of the urban development project in Medina (Madinah), Saudi Arabia. The 80 units will provide combined 200,000 refrigeration tons cooling capacity to the district cooling plant which will supply chilled water to an area of 1.6 million square meters (m2). MHI's centrifugal chillers were evaluated for its efficiency and environmental performance, and deliveries of them are schedule to commence in the autumn 2015. MHI provides 80 units AART-270I variable speed drive (VSD) chiller, which achieves high-efficiency operation by optimally responding to the required cooling load and ambient temperature. Aforesaid efficient operation is made possible by VSD performing meticulous compressor speed control and related devices, and these distinctive mechanical features are especially effective for significant energy-saving under low ambient condition during the night operation. For further reduction of energy consumption, two chillers will be connected and controlled in tandem condition which can provide 5,000 refrigeration tons cooling capacity as a couple. MHI will supply ordered chillers through Zamil Central Air Conditioners Co. Ltd.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Receives an Engineering, Procurement and Construction Order from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. for Two LNG Storage Tanks

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) received an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) order from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. to construct two liquefied natural gas, or LNG, storage tanks. The LNG tanks will be the main facility at the first LNG receiving terminal to be constructed on India's east coast. This is also the first LNG storage tank order that MHI has received from India. Construction of the tanks is slated to begin in July of this year; completion is scheduled for the spring of 2018. The ordered LNG tanks are high-capacity storage tanks capable of holding 180,000m3 each and will be installed at an LNG terminal that IndianOil will build near Ennore port, approximately 25 kilometers north of Chennai on the Bay of Bengal. LNG imported to the terminal will be supplied as feedstock to fertilizer plants, and to utility company power generation plants for use as an alternative fuel. Plans also call for the use of LNG as city gas in urban areas in the future. The terminal will initially have the capacity to handle five million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), expanding to 15 MMTPA in the future. In collaboration with MHI Engineering and Industrial Projects India Private Limited (MEIP), an MHI Group company in India, MHI proactively approached the Indian LNG terminal project from its initial stage.
