Manila Electric Company, together with its subsidiaries, distributes and sells electricity to industrial, commercial, and residential customers in the Philippines. The company operates through two segments, Power and Other Services. It provides power to approximately 5.5 million customers in 35 cities and 76 municipalities, which include Metro Manila; the provinces of Rizal, Cavite, and Bulacan; and parts of the provinces of Pampanga, Batangas, Laguna, and Quezon. The company also offers engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance services related to power generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as industrial plants, water resources, and telecommunications; e-business development services; and e-transaction, bills payment collection, energy systems management, information technology and multi-media, financial, general, and manpower/maintenance services, as well as remittance cash pick-up, electronic cash management, prepaid loading, service applications acceptance, and outsourced tellering and frontline services. In addition, it provides managed services, and power quality and power factor services, as well as designs, procures, and installs right-sized electrical facilities; lighting efficiency and e-vehicle leasing services, as well as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning efficiency services; holds a congressional telecommunications franchise to construct, install, establish, operate, and maintain for commercial purposes; and basic and enhanced telecommunications services in the Philippines, and between the Philippines and other countries and territories. Further, the company invests in and manages commercial buildings; provides non-life insurance services; and develops, builds, owns, and operates a portfolio of power plants. Manila Electric Company was founded in 1903 and is based in Pasig, the Philippines.

Manila Electric Co. Reports Earnings Results for the First Semester of 2015; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Second Half and Full Year of 2015

Manila Electric Co. reported earnings results for the first semester of 2015. For the first semester, the company's reported net income rose 21.9% to PHP 11.747 billion from PHP 9.637 billion in the same period last year. Core net income - which strips out one-time gains and losses - improved by 17.9% to PHP 11.64 billion from PHP 9.87 billion, consolidated financial highlights showed. The company's revenues slightly went up by 1.4% to PHP 134.008 billion from PHP 132.168 billion, while costs and expenses slipped 0.1% to PHP 117.789 billion from PHP 117.964 billion. For the second half, The company anticipates that the volume growth will be slightly better than the first half, in the absence of major weather disturbances. The company provided earnings guidance for the year 2015. The company has set an PHP 18.5-billion profit for 2015.

Hitachi In Talks With Meralco For Possible Business Opportunities

Hitachi Ltd. (TSE:6501) is in talks with the Manila Electric Co. (PSE:MER) for possible business opportunities and partnerships. Hitachi Chief Executive for Asia Pacific Ichiro Iino said the Japanese conglomerate is ironing out several deals with Meralco that would help the latter in its business expansion. “We are discussing a lot of business opportunities with Meralco. Meralco is a large utility company. We have batteries, IT, connectivity so we’re expanding Meralco’s business, we’re trying to work with them,” Iino said.
