medco energi internasional t (MEDC) Key Developments

Oman Extends Medco Contract

Petroleum Development Oman, LLC has extended its one-off production sharing and services agreement, with Medco Energi, paving the way for further development of the Karim Small Fields project in southern Oman. The original 10-year contract, which expires in 2016, has been extended to 2040. It grants Medco a fee from production as well as the reimbursement of all its costs for developing the heavy oil field cluster and includes an obligation to drill three exploration wells in the first two years. PDO said an initial $600 million contract covers the first five years from 2016-21, when around 100 new wells will be drilled. The sum should then increase by $80 million-$130 million per year depending on variables such as the production target and budget.

Petroleum Development Oman Signs USD 600 Million Deal with MedcoEnergi

A USD 600 million deal has been signed between Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and MedcoEnergi to continue developing the Karim Small Fields (KSF) project in southern Oman. The deal, described by the company as 'very significant', runs until 2040 and builds on an existing contract from 2006. PDO has been working in partnership with MedcoEnergi on KSF to maximise production from a series of 18 depleting small and marginal fields. The project throws up a series of tough challenges, not least the viscosity of the oil and the high oil-water ratio in the reservoirs. However, the combined efforts have so far generated revenues of close to USD 4 billion for the Sultanate. The sum of USD 600 million covers the first five years from 2016-2021 when it is expected around 100 new wells will be drilled - but should then increase by USD 80-130 million per year depending on variables such as the production target and budget.
