medallion resources ltd (MDL) Details

Medallion Resources Ltd. engages in the acquisition, exploration, and evaluation of mineral properties. It focuses on rare earth elements, primarily mineral monazite, which is a rare-earth phosphate mineral produced and discarded by mineral sands mines deposits. The company holds interest in the Red Wine heavy-rare-earth elements project, which consists of 7 mineral licenses covering an area of 46.5 square kilometers in Labrador, Canada. Medallion Resources Ltd. was incorporated in 1989 and is based in Vancouver, Canada.

Medallion Announces Metallurgical Tests Yield a Refinery-Ready Rare Earth Product

Medallion Resources Ltd. reported detailed results of its bench-scale metallurgical tests, strongly supporting the viability of the Company's plan to extract rare earths from by-product monazite sand. The metallurgical tests recovered an average of 91% of ten rare-earth elements and yielded a mixed rare-earth concentrate from the tested monazite. This high-purity chemical concentrate is expected to be suitable for input into standard commercial rare-earth refineries or separation plants, which separate the concentrate into individual rare-earth oxides and other rare-earth products. Medallion's sample concentrate product will soon be provided to interested refineries for testing under appropriate confidentiality arrangements. The tested by-product monazite sand sample contained approximately 47% rare-earth oxide (REO) content - with the rare-earth elements found predominately in the mineral monazite, a rare-earth phosphate. The test recovery percentages for the ten commercial rare-earth elements (and yttrium) ranged between 72% and 96%, with a weighted average recovery of 91%. Although this is an excellent recovery percentage, the Company is confident that further metallurgical testing can improve the recovery values to even higher levels and also optimize individual rare-earth element recoveries based on market pricing. All metallurgical testing was conducted at the lab of J E Litz and Associates of Denver, Colorado, using a standard commercial caustic-leach process to extract rare-earths from monazite. The test flow sheet mimicked a commercial process in all regards except for the recycling of leach solutions. Standard laboratory equipment was used, including a bench-scale autoclave for accurate temperature control. The standard-method rare-earth ICP assays (Inductively Coupled Plasma spectroscopic analysis of fused mineral samples and four-acid digested lab-produced samples), used to measure the rare-earth quantities of the different test products and to calculate mass balances and rare-earth recoveries, were performed by Hazen Research Inc. of Denver, Colorado.

Medallion Resources Ltd. Auditor Raises 'Going Concern' Doubt

Medallion Resources Ltd. filed its Annual on Jun 30, 2015 for the period ending Mar 31, 2015. In this report its auditor, Davidson & Company, gave an unqualified opinion expressing doubt that the company can continue as a going concern.

Medallion Resources Ltd Announces Progress on its Lab-Scale Metallurgical Testing to Extract Rare Earths from Beach Sand Monazite

Medallion Resources Ltd. announced that it has made significant progress on its lab-scale metallurgical testing to extract rare earths from beach sand monazite. This recent work, undertaken by the company's Chief Technical Advisor Dr. Bill Bird and a consultancy, confirms Medallion's caustic-route metallurgical process plans and establishes an important step toward full process refinement and commercialization. Within a few weeks, the company expects to complete the optimization of the processing cycle. The completed test will provide Medallion with a high-purity, rare-earth chemical concentrate product and related analytical data for prospective customers and partners. Some of the more important process improvements that have resulted from testing to date include: Techniques for handling the waste material in the monazite feedstock, Opportunities for recycling of water and reagents, and Techniques for production of phosphate as a potential commercial fertilizer by-product of the process. The mineral monazite, a rare-earth element phosphate, is the world's original rare-earth mineral source. Although found in hard rock deposits, monazite is also readily available in significant quantities as a high-grade by-product of heavy-mineral sands operations. Medallion's rare-earth production strategy is based on entering into long-term monazite supply agreements with reliable heavy-mineral sands producers. This provides for the aggregation of monazite supply streams, large-scale mine-independent extraction, and marketing of a rare-earth concentrate. Medallion is positioning itself to help satisfy a percentage of non-China demand for rare-earth elements by providing a rare-earth chemical concentrate to downstream separation processors. This approach is expected to have relatively low capital and operating costs, as it uses a high-purity, rare-earth-bearing monazite as input and a time-tested, commercially successful metallurgical process to extract the rare earths.
