Micrel, Incorporated, together with its subsidiaries, designs, develops, manufactures, and markets analog, mixed-signal, and digital semiconductor devices primarily in North America, Asia, and Europe. It offers power conversion products, including LDOs, DC/DC converters, analog power switches, PMICs, solid state lighting products, and FET drivers; supervisory and reference products that protect, monitor, and enhance the interface of circuitry around microcontroller and processor circuits; and general linear parts, such as op amps, thermal measurement devices, timers, and other general devices. The company also offers radio frequency data communication products, including QwikRadio family of RF receivers and transmitters for use in garage door openers, lighting and fan controls, automotive keyless entry, and remote controls, as well as RadioWire transceivers for applications, such as remote metering, security systems, and factory automation. Micrel Introduces New Family of Power-Management Ic Solutions

Micrel Inc. has introduced the MIC7400/MIC7401, a new family of integrated and configurable power-management IC, or PMIC, solutions featuring six independent DC/DC regulators. Available in a small 4.5mm x 4.5mm FQFN package, this product family provides one of the industry's high power density solutions with total solution size of 12mm x 8mm x 1mm. The MIC7400 /MIC7401 combine a total of five independent 3A synchronous buck converters, an independent 200mA non-synchronous boost converter, and numerous programmable features, providing a highly flexible power solution. The device is targeted at SSDs and a growing number of applications deploying processors and SOCs, including smart-home and internet-of-things (IoT) devices.

Micrel Inc. Introduces 20A IntelliMOS(TM) Power Stage Family with Phase Splitting Architecture in Compact 4mm x 6mm TQFN Package

Micrel Inc. announced the MIC4520/MIC4521, an IntelliMOS power stage family capable of delivering up to 20A in a compact 4mm x 6mm TQFN package. The MIC4521 is a two-phase power stage (includes MOSFET drivers and power MOSFETs) featuring integrated current and temperature sensing. The MIC4521 can be interfaced with a single-phase controller (such as Micrel's MIC2111) to build a complete high-current and high-performance power converter. The MIC4520 is a single-phase power stage that can operate with a single-phase or multi-phase controller. These power stages can be used in a wide variety of point of load applications for end markets such as networking, servers, storage, base stations and graphic cards. The MIC4520/21 devices are available in volume quantities with 1,000 quantity pricing starting at $2.34/$2.57 respectively. The MIC4520/MIC4521 utilizes Micrel's high performance FETZilla DMOS technology to achieve high efficiency (over 90% peak). Micrel's IntelliMOS power MOSFETs have been optimized for low gate capacitance to enable fast switching performance (up to 1.2MHz) for minimal switching losses while their low on-resistance reduces conduction losses. The MIC4521 offers higher levels of intelligence and telemetry than traditional DrMOS power stages. The integrated current and temperature sensing of the MIC4521 enables power system designers to accurately measure and monitor the condition of each power converter to enhance system reliability. Both the MIC4520 and MIC4521 utilize Micrel's propriety bi-directional fault communication protocol to provide system protection against faults. The MIC4520 /MIC4521 operate over an input voltage range of 7V to 16V. The devices can be configured for continuous or discontinuous conduction operation and support diode emulation mode for improved light load efficiency. The MIC4520 /MIC4521 have a junction temperature range from -40-deg C to +125-deg C.

Micrel Inc. introduced the MIC7400/MIC7401, a new family of highly integrated and configurable power-management IC (PMIC) solutions featuring six independent DC/DC regulators. Available in a small 4.5mm x 4.5mm FQFN package, this product family provides power density solutions with total solution size of 12mm x 8mm x 1mm. The MIC7400/MIC7401 combine a total of five independent 3A synchronous buck converters, an independent 200mA non-synchronous boost converter, and numerous programmable features, providing a highly flexible power solution. The device is targeted at SSDs and a growing number of applications deploying processors and SOCs, including smart-home and internet-of-things (IoT) devices. The devices are available in volume quantities with 10,000 quantity pricing starting at $4.09. The devices are configurable through an I2C interface and an internal EEPROM. These highly configurable power management devices offer dynamic output voltage scaling, normal and standby modes, and start-up power sequencing order and delays. Utilizing only 200 microamperes of quiescent current in normal mode, the MIC7400/MIC7401 also has a low power standby mode of operation that provides flexibility to reduce the quiescent current by decreasing output voltage or completely turning off any individual output. This feature further optimizes efficiency in sleep/hibernate states and prolongs operating life in sensitive lower power applications. The combination of power density and feature flexibility, in addition to superior fast transient response and light load performance, results in an efficiency-optimized high-density solution for space constrained applications while reducing design cycle time. The device is accompanied by a simple and intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) tool to aid in the configuration and monitoring. The MIC7400/MIC7401 operates from a 2.4V to 5.5V input and can provide an output of 0.8V to 3.3V for the buck regulators with 1.5% output accuracy over line/load and temperature. The integrated boost regulator is capable of regulating output voltages from 7V to 14V. Other configurable features include soft-start rise/fall times, current limit, output active discharge in-addition to the threshold and delay for the integrated power-on-reset circuitry. The MIC7400 and MIC7401 are specified with a junction temperature range of -40-degC to +125-degC.
