Microchip Technology Inc. Announces Projected-Capacitive Touch Screen Controller MTCH6303

Microchip Technology Inc. announced a new addition to its Human Interface Solutions portfolio with the MTCH6303, an innovative, turnkey projected-capacitive touch controller for touch pads and screens. Touch sensors with up to 1000 nodes and diagonals of up to 10" are supported. The MTCH6303 provides multi-touch coordinates as well as a readymade multi-finger surface gesture suite that brings modern user interface (UI) elements "such as pinch and zoom, multi-finger scrolling, and swipes to any embedded design, with minimal host requirements. The MTCH6303's advanced signal processing provides noise-avoidance techniques and predictive tracking for 10 fingers, at scan rates of up to 250 Hz with a minimum of 100 Hz each for five touches. It also combines with Microchip's MTCH652 high-voltage line driver to achieve a superior signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for outstanding touch performance in noisy environments. When combined with the MGC3130, the MTCH6303 solution is capable of supporting 3D air gestures up to 20 cm distance from the touch panel. Microchip's MGC3130 E-field-based 3D tracking and gesture controller includes Microchip's patented GestIC technology, allowing user input via natural hand and finger movements in free space. This combination empowers designers to create interface-control possibilities in two and three dimensions that differentiate their products from the competition. The advanced capabilities of the MTCH6303 create robust, ready-to-go touch and gesture solutions for the rapid growth of human-interface applications and requirements in the industrial (e.g., machine control panels, HVAC controls, metering and test equipment), home-automation (e.g., security control panels, thermostat and lighting controls) and office-equipment (e.g., printers, copiers and fax machines) markets, among others. The new MTCH6303 is available now in 64-pin QFN and TQFP packages, for sampling and volume production. Pricing starts at $2.46 each, in 10,000-unit quantities. The MTCH652 is available now in 28-pin QFN, SOIC and SSOP packages, for sampling and volume production. Pricing starts at $1.04 each, in 10,000-unit quantities. The MGC3130 is available now in a 28-pin QFN package, for sampling and volume production. Pricing starts at $2.26 each in 10,000-unit quantities.

Microchip Technology Inc. Introduces PIC32 Harmony Software Decoder Framework and Microsoft WMA Decoder Library

Microchip Technology Inc. announced the PIC32 Harmony Software Decoder Framework and Microsoft Windows Media Audio (WMA) Decoder Library for 32-bit PIC32 microcontroller (MCU)-based consumer-audio application development within the MPLAB® Harmony Integrated Software Framework. The WMA Decoder Library includes a new modular framework for audio decoders, including support for MP3 and AAC, allowing easier audio application development. Microchip's Audio Decoder Framework allows for audio software codecs to be easily added to a PIC32 design project. Rather than having to rewrite large sections of application code, the framework allows for easier integration into an existing customer application after the corresponding decoder library has been purchased. The WMA Decoder increases the depth of the library for PIC32 MCU-supported audio decoders, in addition to MP3 and AAC. This increases the range of audio formats that designers can choose to support. The audio decoder framework within the Harmony environment allows designers to easily add, subtract and switch among various software-based audio decoders. Additionally, including a WMA decoder gives developers an even wider set of options and support for audio playback. The WMA Decoder Library is targeted for low-cost applications in the consumer markets, such as audio docks, home audio receivers and automotive head units. It gives developers added flexibility in decoder options that play back from internal or removable media. The addition of a WMA decoder library further expands the audio application flexibility of PIC32-based designs, building upon existing USB and Bluetooth® streaming audio solutions.

Kia Motors Corporation Selects Microchip Technology Inc.'s MOST150 Devices for Telematics Service in Kia K900 Model's Infotainment Network

Microchip Technology Inc. announced that Kia Motors Corporation is enriching its infotainment system with powerful smart-phone connectivity in its Kia K900 luxury sedan (known as 'Quoris' in some countries), using Microchip's OS81110 Intelligent Network Interface Controller (INIC). Building on years of experience using Microchip's MOST® INICs, Kia adopted the latest MOST150 standard for the 2015 K900 in order to take advantage of its Internet-connectivity capabilities. To date, more than 170 million MOST interface controllers have been installed in 184 car models since 2001. Kia and all major carmakers have for many years successfully implemented MOST technology in their multi-node infotainment networking systems, as it provides a field-proven, low-risk, whole-system solution. The MOST150 standard meets Kia's Internet-connectivity requirements. This latest version of MOST technology continues to predictably and efficiently transport video, audio, packet and control data throughout the vehicle without time-synchronization protocols, using dedicated channels for minimal processor overhead in the main infotainment control unit processors. MOST150 also provides 150 Mbps performance and proven electromagnetic-compatibility (EMC) behavior. All MOST INICs offer industry-standard hardware interfaces to processor and peripheral devices for the efficient routing of streaming, packet and control data, which greatly simplifies module designs. End users can immediately access the vehicle's infotainment system, due to the MOST INIC's ultra-fast network startup behavior. The MOST Cooperation standards enable automotive OEMs and their Tier 1 suppliers with a proven and well-supported methodology for defining and implementing high-bandwidth infotainment and Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) systems, including a standard physical layer and a robust method for system management and control with superior reliability and Quality of Service (QoS). Using MOST technology also results in reduced weight for easier compliance with environmental regulations.
