Madison County Financial, Inc., through its subsidiary, Madison County Bank, provides financial services to individuals, families, and businesses in Nebraska, the United States. It accepts retail deposits, such as interest-bearing checking, noninterest-bearing checking, money market savings accounts, as well as certificates and time deposits; and originates agricultural real estate loans, one- to four-family residential real estate loans, agricultural and commercial non-real estate loans, commercial and multi-family real estate loans, and consumer loans, including automobile loans. The company also purchases investment securities comprising securities issued by the United States Treasury, United States Government agencies, Government sponsored enterprises, and municipal securities, as well as securities issued by counties, cities, school districts, and other political subdivisions. It offers its products and services through six banking offices located in the Nebraska counties of Cedar, Boone, Knox, Madison, and Pierce. The company was formerly known as Madison County Holding Company and changed its name to Madison County Financial, Inc. on October 4, 2012. Madison County Financial, Inc. was founded in 1888 and is headquartered in Madison, Nebraska.

Madison County Financial, Inc. announced earnings results for the year ended December 31, 2013. For the year, the company reported net income of $3,019,000 or $1.03 basic and diluted earnings per share compared to net income of $3,630,000 or $0.84 basic and diluted earnings per share of prior year. The decrease in net income resulted primarily from decreases in interest income and noninterest income, and increases in provision for loan losses and noninterest expense, offset by decreases in interest expense and income tax expense. Net interest income was $9,946,000 against $9,888,000 of prior year. The increase reflected a $207,000 increase in interest income on securities, and a $125,000 decrease in interest expense on deposits and an $8,000 decrease in interest expense on borrowings, offset by a $293,000 decrease in interest income on loans, resulting primarily from continued lower market interest rates. Income before income tax expense was $4,083,000 against $5,072,000 of prior year.
