Matthews International Corporation designs, manufactures, and markets memorialization products and solutions for the cemetery and funeral home industries in the United States, Central and South America, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia. The company’s Cemetery Products segment provides cast bronze, granite, and other memorialization products; and bronze and aluminum architectural products, as well as builds mausoleums. Its Funeral Home Products segment manufactures and distributes caskets, including wood, metal, and cremation caskets; casket components comprising stamped metal parts, metal locking mechanisms, adjustable beds, and interior panels; and other funeral home products, such as urns, jewelry, and stationery. The company’s Cremation segment offers cremation systems, waste management/incineration systems, environmental and energy systems, service and supplies, crematory management/operations, and cremation urns and memorialization products. Its Graphics Imaging segment provides brand development and management services, pre-media services, printing plates, gravure cylinders, steel bases, embossing tools, special purpose machinery, engineering assistance, print process assistance, print production management, digital asset management, content management, and package design services primarily to the packaging and corrugated industries. The company’s Marking and Fulfillment Systems segment designs, manufactures, and distributes various marking and coding equipment and consumables, industrial automation products, and order fulfillment systems for identifying, tracking, picking, and conveying consumer and industrial products. Its Merchandising Solutions segment provides merchandising, retail graphics, and printing solutions for brand owners and retailers; and designs and manufactures merchandising displays and systems, as well as provides creative merchandising and marketing solutions. The company was founded in 1850 and is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Matthews International Corporation reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported revenues of $349,394,000 compared to $246,837,000 a year ago. Operating profit was $19,275,000 compared to $20,543,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $13,805,000 compared to $17,901,000 a year ago. Net income attributable to the company was $9,576,000 or $0.29 per diluted share compared to $11,333,000 or $0.41 per diluted share a year ago. Non-GAAP earnings per share were $0.67 against $0.62 a year ago. The company's consolidated sales representing an increase of 41.5%. Higher sales for the current period resulted from the acquisition of SGK and sales growth in all of the company's principal business segments.  The increase in earnings per share on a non-GAAP adjusted basis primarily reflected the impact of the acquisition of Schawk Inc. and the company's consolidated sales growth. For the six months period, the company reported revenues of $692,978,000 compared to $476,782,000 a year ago. Operating income was $44,860,000 compared to $35,222,000 a year ago. Loss before loss taxes was $33,893,000 compared to $29,888,000 a year ago. Net income attributable to the company was $24,527,000 or $0.74 per diluted share compared to $19,247,000 or $0.70 per diluted share a year ago. Non-GAAP earnings per share were $1.22 against $1.03 a year ago.

Matthews International Corporation Announces Amendments to Articles of Incorporation

On April 23, 2015, the Board of Directors of Matthews International Corporation approved an amendment to the company's restated By-laws. The amendment retains this age limitation, but allows the Board of Directors to permit the Chairman of the Board, under certain circumstances, to be nominated to one additional term, not to exceed three years, regardless of whether the Chairman has attained, or would attain, seventy years of age during such additional term.
