It operates through Life Direct Insurance, Automobile Direct Insurance, Other Non-Life Direct Insurance, Life and Non-Life Accepted Reinsurance, and Other Activities segments. The company offers motor, home, health, life, retirement, accident, death, assistance, agriculture, and livestock insurance products for individuals; and savings and investment solutions or services for senior citizens. It also provides motor, third party liability, engineering and construction, marine and aviation, fire and other property damage, credit and surety, and agriculture and livestock insurance products, as well as collective health, accident, life, retirement, etc. insurance policies to small and medium companies and large corporations and institutions. In addition, the company offers accidents, health, life, retirement, motor, third party liability, agriculture and farming, and commercial line insurance products; and savings and investment solutions or vehicle renting services for professionals, self-employed, and small companies. Further, it provides life and non-life, finance, securities, and services, as well as invests in real estate, and mutual and pension funds. Mapfre, S.A. distributes its products through approximately 5,524 company-owned offices; and approximately 9,484 branches of banking institutions and other outlets, as well as through agents and brokers. The company was formerly known as Corporacion Mapfre and changed its name to Mapfre, S.A. in December 2006. Mapfre, S.A. was founded in 1933 and is based in Majadahonda, Spain. Mapfre SA operates as a subsidiary of Cartera Mapfre, S.L.

Mapfre Reports Earnings Results for the First Half of 2015

Mapfre reported earnings results for the first half of 2015. For the period, the company’s pre-tax profits shrunk 10.3% from €908.2 million in the first half of 2014 to €814.4 million in 2015. Total revenue increased 8.5% to €14.5 billion. Non-life gross written premiums rose 12.1% over the period from €8.6 billion in 2014 to €9.6 billion in 2015. Gross written and accepted premiums in the Europe, Middle East and Asia region grew 32.7% to €816.4 million in the first half of 2015.

Banif Reportedly To Sell Stake In AASoreana

Banif - Banco Internacional do Funchal, S.A. (ENXTLS:BANIF) is planning to sell 48% stake in Companhia de Seguros Açoreana SA, with Mapfre SA (CATS:MAP) and Apollo Global Management, LLC (NYSE:APO) among half a dozen suitors looking to acquire the stake, according to sources. Rentipar - Sociedade Gestora de Participações Sociais, SA, which owns the remaining stake, is also looking to sell.

American International Group, Inc. (NYSE:AIG) is looking to acquire Latin American business of RSA Insurance Group plc (LSE:RSA), Chilean business daily Pulso reported on May 27, 2015. The Financial Times reported in March that RSA is contemplating selling its Latin American operations and had hired Goldman Sachs to handle a potential sale. Other potential buyers reportedly include Zurich Insurance Group Ltd (SWX:ZURN), Allianz SE (DB:ALV), AXA Group (ENXTPA:CS), ACE Limited (NYSE:ACE), Talanx AG (DB:TLX) and Mapfre SA (CATS:MAP).
