The company provides transport services comprising wavelengths, private lines, transoceanic, and dark fiber, as well as related professional services; fiber services; and colocation and data center services, such as cloud, hosting, and application management solutions. It also offers Internet protocol (IP) and data services comprising Internet services, virtual private network, content delivery network, media delivery, Vyvx broadcast, converged business network, and managed services; local and enterprise voice services consisting of voice over IP enhanced local, SIP trunking, local inbound, primary rate interface, long distance, and toll free services; and collaboration services, such as audio, Web, and video conferencing services. In addition, the company provides wholesale voice services, including voice termination and toll free services. It primarily serves multinational customers, enterprises, portals and large search enterprises, regional service providers, systems integrators, and software service providers; online gaming providers, social networking providers, technology companies, and companies that provide video over the Internet; media conglomerates, programmers, studios and production companies, and broadcast station ownership groups; sports teams, and stadiums and venues; governments; and carriers, voice service providers, wireless providers, and broadband cable television operators. The company was founded in 1884 and is headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado.

Level 3 Communications, Inc. Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2015; Revises Earnings Guidance for the Year 2015

Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of $2.053 billion for the first quarter 2015 against $1.609 billion a year ago, Operating income was $316 million against $264 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was $127 million against $119 million a year ago. In the first quarter 2015, the company generated net income of $122 million or $0.35 basic and diluted earnings per share against $122 million or $0.47 basic and diluted earnings per share a year ago. This compared to pro forma net income of $99 million and basic and diluted earnings per share of $0.30 and $0.29 per share, respectively, for the first quarter 2014. Net cash provided by operating activities was $305 million against $141 million a year ago. Capital expenditures were $254 million against $163 million a year ago. For the first quarter 2015, Adjusted EBITDA was $635 million, including $5 million of integration-related expenses, compared to $593 million on a pro forma basis for the first quarter 2014. Net debt as on March 31, 2015 was $10,418 million. The company provided earnings guidance for the year 2015. For the year, the company announced that based on its performance in adjusted EBITDA and the progress the company has made in realizing annualized run-rate synergies, the company is updating its outlook for the full year 2015. The company now expects full year 2015 adjusted EBITDA growth of 14% to 17%, compared to its previous outlook of 12% to 16%. In addition, the company expects to generate free cash flow of $600 million to $650 million for the full year 2015. This compares to its prior outlook of $550 million to $600 million. Additionally, given the capital markets activity in the second quarter, the company is updating its interest expense outlook for the full year 2015, and now expects GAAP interest expense of approximately $660 million and net cash interest expense of approximately $645 million, compared to its prior outlook of $680 million and $640 million, respectively. All other outlook measures remain unchanged.

Level 3 and Verizon Enter into Interconnection Agreement

Level 3 Communications and Verizon have entered into a long-term, bilateral interconnection agreement related to their public IP networks. The interconnection agreement ensures customers on the two networks can continue to exchange data in an effective and efficient manner. As the Internet continues to grow and evolve, Internet service providers are negotiating business agreements that allow exchange of Internet traffic in a scalable, resilient and reliable manner. Focusing on the customer, this agreement allows consumers of both Level 3 and Verizon to enjoy high-performance speeds to enable new, high-bandwidth applications. The agreement contains provisions to add capacity and establish new interconnection locations between the two networks to stay ahead of growing traffic demands. The agreement also includes new connections for Verizon Digital Media Services' content delivery network to connect to Level 3's network globally, further improving quality for Verizon's CDN customers. This approach offers flexibility for each network while improving performance and reliability for the customers of both.

Level 3 Communications to Expand Business into Latin America

Level 3 Communications announced that global managed hosting provider, i3D.net, will be able to expand its business into Latin America by connecting to Level 3 Communications' infrastructure in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The company's expansion drive into Latin America is supported by the addition of Level 3 data centre point-of-presence (PoP) connectivity in Sao Paulo, enabling i3D.net's customers in the region to access locally-delivered content. i3D.net is a managed-hosting provider based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, serving over 31,000 customers on 10,000 i3D.net servers in 16 data centres locations worldwide.
