The company provides transport services comprising wavelengths, private lines, transoceanic, and dark fiber, as well as related professional services; fiber services; and colocation and data center services, such as cloud, hosting, and application management solutions. It also offers Internet protocol (IP) and data services comprising Internet services, virtual private network, content delivery network, media delivery, Vyvx broadcast, converged business network, and managed services; local and enterprise voice services consisting of voice over IP enhanced local, SIP trunking, local inbound, primary rate interface, long distance, and toll free services; and collaboration services, such as audio, Web, and video conferencing services. In addition, the company provides wholesale voice services, including voice termination and toll free services. It primarily serves multinational customers, enterprises, portals and large search enterprises, regional service providers, systems integrators, and software service providers; online gaming providers, social networking providers, technology companies, and companies that provide video over the Internet; media conglomerates, programmers, studios and production companies, and broadcast station ownership groups; sports teams, and stadiums and venues; governments; and carriers, voice service providers, wireless providers, and broadband cable television operators. The company was founded in 1884 and is headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado.

Level 3 Communications, Inc. Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter Ended June 30, 2015; Reiterates Earnings Guidance for the Year 2015

Level 3 Communications, Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported total revenue of $2,061 million compared to $1,625 million for the second quarter 2014. Net loss was $13 million or $0.04 basic and diluted net income per share compared to a net income of $51 million or $0.21 basic and diluted net income per share in the second quarter 2014. Income before income taxes were $5 million compared with $63 million a year ago. Operating income was $350 million compared with $256 million a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $419 million compared with $303 million a year ago. Capital expenditures were $317 million compared with $241 million a year ago. As on June 30, 2015, the company's net debt was $10,486 million. The company reported adjusted EPS of $0.42, above the year-earlier level of $0.13. The company reported adjusted net income of $150 million. The company reported like figures of $45 million. On a GAAP basis, the company reported loss, due largely to a loss on the extinguishment and modification of debt, related to refinancing transactions completed during the quarter. Adjusted EBITDA was $665 million against $597 million a year earlier. In its 2015 business outlook, the company said it reiterates the outlook and expects 2015 adjusted EBITDA growth of 14% to 17% and free cash flow of $600 to $650 million. Given the capital markets activity in the quarter, the company lowering its interest expense outlook for the full year 2015, and now expect GAAP interest expense of approximately $650 million and net cash interest expense of approximately $640 million, compared to its prior outlook of $660 million and $645 million, respectively.

Level 3 Communications Seeks Acquisitions

Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT) is seeking acquisitions. Jeff Storey, President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are an acquisitive company. It's part of our strategy to acquire.” Storey added, “We will continue to look at M&A from a variety of different approaches. We believe in Europe and Latin America we want to continue to grow scale.” Storey further added, “So those are some drivers to look at things internationally. Having said that, our focus is on integrating TW Telecom and Level 3, and we're going to make sure that that's the highest priority that we have as a business, that we integrate it effectively. It has global ramifications. As we standardize our products set, as we standardize our network and as we standardize our system across the globe, we want to continue to drive that capability and take advantage of the acquisition we did with TW Telecom. So that remains our primary focus, but we are an acquiring company, an acquisitive company, and we will continue to look at opportunities to add scale or capabilities that we need regardless of the region.”

Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced that effective July 28, 2015, Kathleen Schneider joins Level 3 as the Senior Vice President Product and Marketing, EMEA, leading all product, marketing, communications, business development, commercial operations and customer experience for the region. Most recently, Schneider was Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications for Criteo, a publicly-traded technology company specialising in digital marketing and big data. Kathleen will act as a strategic partner to sales channels and global marketing organization to leverage Level 3's global network to solve customers growth, efficiency and security challenges.
