lockheed martin corp (LMT) Key Developments

Lockheed Martin Work with FAA to Develop and Deliver the En Route Automation Modernization System Nationwide

The En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) system, a key piece of the infrastructure for the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen), is now in place, providing technology that will increase capacity, improve efficiency and enhance the cornerstone of the FAA's mission "air safety. Lockheed Martin worked closely with the FAA to develop and deliver the ERAM system nationwide, replacing the 40-year-old computer system used to control aircraft flying at high altitudes. Among key ERAM technologies is an end-to-end, 4-D trajectory model that predicts the path of each aircraft in time and space. It allows flight operations to supplement today's ground-based radars with more accurate satellite-based automatic dependent surveillance broadcast (ADS-B) technology, which allows for increased capacity and safety for aircraft that were previously not covered by radar surveillance. In short, aircraft can fly more efficient routes, helping airlines achieve business goals and travelers reach their destinations sooner. Other key advancements include: Greater capacity. Controllers at each Air Route Traffic Control Center will be able to track an additional 800 aircraft, for a total of 1,900 aircraft at one time. Wider field of vision. Automated tools help controllers detect potential conflicts and resolve them optimally. With ERAM, controllers see a bigger picture, beyond their area of responsibility, and choose the safest, most fuel-efficient outcomes. Introduction of NextGen technologies. ERAM technology enables NextGen initiatives, which yield airline efficiencies and support re-routes in response to weather conditions or other airspace constraints. Ground-Based Interval Management-Spacing uses ADS-B to precisely space aircraft entering airspace surrounding a major airport, streamlining traffic flow and decreasing delays. Pre-departure reroute and airborne reroute capabilities automatically transmit re-routing information from the traffic manager to the pilot and dispatcher, simplifying the process and giving passengers smoother flights.

Lockheed Martin Delivers 1,000th Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod

Lockheed Martin marked the 1,000th Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod delivery during a ceremony held on April 29, 2015 at its Missiles and Fire Control facility in Orlando, Florida. The 1,000th pod, which was delivered to the U.S. Air Force, is a sensor-enhanced Sniper ATP that provides fighter and bomber aircraft with advanced modes for non-traditional intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (NTISR); enhanced target identification; maritime tracking; and two-way datalink communication.

Lockheed Martin and Project Lifesaver International to Partner in Public Safety Mission to Locate Missing Persons with Unmanned Indago Quad Rotor

Lockheed Martin announced it is teaming with Project Lifesaver International and Loen Engineering Inc., bringing advanced technology to first response agencies. The Indago small unmanned aerial system (UAS) will be integrated with an innovative light-weight antenna and receiver developed by Loen Engineering. The system allows Project Lifesaver agencies and first responders to rapidly locate special needs individuals who have wandered from their homes. First responders have relied on manned aircraft to conduct aerial search and rescue operations, and the Indago reduces the response time and increases the efficiency of search efforts when time is critical. The five-pound, collapsible Indago system can be stored in the trunk of any squad car and deployed within a matter of minutes. Indago is a proven, reliable and easy to operate quad rotor small UAS that requires no assembly. Coupling the Project Lifesaver antenna and control elements with the Indago system expands signal detectability, serves as an airborne relay, and greatly improves the probability of location success across broad search areas. The Indago's flight time of 45 minutes and electro-optic infrared gimbaled imager provides high quality data and enhanced situational awareness for operators to make real-time decisions. Indago is capable of providing tactical situational awareness and geo-location to aid in a variety of missions, from firefighting to precision agriculture to search and rescue.
