LG Electronics Inc. to Launch New Curved Smartphone Next Week in South Korea

LG Electronics Inc. announced that it will start selling a new curved smartphone next week in its latest effort to bring the curve to a mass market. The company announced that the G Flex 2 will be launched locally on Jan. 30 and overseas in coming months. Curved screens are a way of differentiating high smartphones that have come to share many similar features such as high resolution displays and powerful cameras. When LG released its first version of a curved smartphone in 2013, it was a niche product. The latest iteration shows LG is targeting a bigger market. The phone features a 5.5-inch screen curved from top to bottom. In an improvement from its predecessor, the phone's self-healing back can repair scratches in seconds rather than minutes. LG said both the screen and the body are more resilient to shocks than other phones.

The STB-3000 supports the same HTML5 development environment and Application Program Interface as LG's Pro:Centric Smart IPTVs, so that the same third-party applications developed by LG's System Integrators partners can also operate on the set top box. The LG STB-3000 comes complete with brand new updates that optimize the user experience including: an enhanced Pro:Centric platform which supports multi-threading, so that multiple applications can be run simultaneously. Bluetooth® functionality that allows users to connect personal devices to stream music. Access to an expanded list of SMART applications, including Over The Top video services, and games.
